I have AdGuard running in my home lab and pointed the router to the AdGuard DNS resolver. I have some general block lists and a special Smart TV block list. I asked DeepSeek to do the same scan, but given everything goes through AdGuard it’s much simpler to sift through it’s logs. You really aren't paying attention. They weren't talking about distribution channels. They were talking about capturing user data - "we know who's in the LG household. We know which devices are there. We know what you're exposed to on TV and we know how to extend that reach into mobile."

Having a device that can distribute ads to consumers is a distribution channel. Measuring ad impressions is a core part of ad distribution.

You still aren’t paying attention. They capture data about people in (and nearby) the household that aren’t even using the product.

"Giving the keys" doesn't necessarily mean outright cat the private key to Claude. You setup the key, configure SSH config to use it and you can just SSH to the machine without ever seeing the keys. Stop fear mongering unnecessarily.

I wasn't talking about the literal key files, I was talking about the metaphorical keys to the kingdom. No matter how you set it up, you're giving a cloud service the ability to SSH into your private network. Surely you must see the glaring security risk this creates?

You're making a huge assumption that it does not remember wifi passwords and that it would actually honor your request. You're assuming it does not communicate with/via other LG devices owned by neighbors. You're assuming it does not communicate via partner apps on mobile and other partner devices over other protocols. You're assuming they won't eventually simply add cellular modems to circumvent all of this.

Block the TV via its MAC address then?

If it does MAC spoofing, then just take it out back and shoot it. That's properly malicious.

There's probably something to do with volume and mfg capacity. The TV companies were doing everything they could and still not meeting the demand for TVs, so they might as well make them repairable. Signals quality. But now we have much more ability to make TVs than demand for TVs, and making them not repairable stimulates demand.
