There is no collective opinion needed to interpret the historical use and context of the laws.

When Scandinavia entered Schengen it was all Western European countries that explicitly kept Eastern European countries out.

Asylums were rare, low in number and strictly enforced to known political refugees with very few arriving until the UN started funding migrant transports & EU started requiring quotas from the third world through EU at the risk of severe fines if you say no.

There was no vote on these changes to what was previously very strong borders.

The original post is about ideology, and the discussion thread includes battle over every controversial ideological topic you can think of. There are certainly many flagged, guidelines-breaking comments now, just as we'd expect for an article written in this way.

It's just not the kind of topic that can inspire curious conversation on HN.

I haven't experienced gypsies first hand, but from the youtube perception that I see, they definitely DO prey on tourists at land marks.

I have "experienced" Roma people including having lived close to a large Roma group (same street), going to school with them etc and it's a complete nonsense to blame and persecute the whole ethnic group. In general, in the year 2026 we should know better than to assign collective guilt. It always creates more issues than it purports to solve.

If you really want to understand an issue in depth, don't use propaganda videos as education.
