Yep, I remember seeing the headline. I clicked in, read the sub-head and first few sentences, hit the back button, and moved on, having duly noted the passing of one more milestone in Google's long descent. The reasons why it sucks, why they eventually did it and the vague, implausible PR justifications for doing it were all self-derivable from the headline and sub-head.

I doubt I missed anything of significant substance, but didn't want to assert factual knowledge, so I just linked the Wikipedia article (which I also didn't read into). Don't interpret my skipping the rumination step with excusing or dismissing Google's decline. I don't need to rubber-neck every step of a slow-mo, multi-year train wreck to lament that it happened and update my priors regarding Google.

doesn't happen in my case (OnePlus 15/Android 16, Firefox background usage allowed in some "smart" mode whatever that means, doesn't suck the battery in background although it's on most of the time).

Exactly. And that is why I find the parent comment from the Orion PM misleading at best. Because it sounds like uBlock Origin works on iOS, when in reality it doesn’t and probably won‘t in the forseeable future.

What does uBlock Origin say in response to this? They had a TestFlight debut but i dont know anything beyond that

uBlock Origin Lite had a TestFlight and now works fine as a Safari extension on iOS.

uBlock Origin never claimed their Firefox extension works in Orion. So I don't think they need to respond.

I’m honestly not looking for an innovative browser. I’m looking for one that is auditable, reliable, and not fracking me for data.

I was also sad to see the servo team shut down and a lot of the Foundation decisions the last few years have caused me to raise an eyebrow, but ultimately I just want what I listed above.

As a user at least I have an option to use ublock origin extension in Firefox. So I'm somewhat grateful I can still browse the net peacefully and safely.

That's exactly my point: You and many others accept a local optimum.

I use cromite also.Your old phone may work with version 138.0.7204.184 I believe uptown app store offers that version.

thanks for the tip, I assumed some older version would work but anyway using it only temporarily until I switch to something more modern and can deal with that UI for few days/weeks at worst, anyway Cromite has its cons as well, it regularly exit UbO which need to be relaunched (plus also the UbO menu is cropped and not fully displayed), that's sort of deal breaker compared to UI, I am experiecing it quite frequently, I wish there would be Kiwi Browser successor which would have stable UbO support, Helium doesn't even support MV2 and Ultimatum also didn't work very good to me, so might as well return to FF even on new phone despite the horrible UI
