- settlements on river banks will be swept away - the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe, ZNPP, won't be restarted due to lack of cooling - Crimea will lost access to fresh water - First line of defence for both sides are swept away. - it will be harder for Ukraine side to mount an amphibious assault So it's a lose-lose situation for everyone.

It's sad how people still believe Russian propaganda, and these claims have been constant throughout the war: - We didn't bomb the civilians, that was Ukraine. - The torture chambers weren't ours, they were found in Ukraine. - Ukraine are nazis (no comments on the Russian white supremacists in the military). - We did not blow up Nord Stream 2, that was Ukraine (or the US). - We did not blow up the dam, that was Ukrai…
It's called "fog of war". If you believe everything Ukraine/US/EU says you are just as much as a fool as if you did believing Russia.

That doesn't give a blank check to do whatever you want without criticism. And if previous actions justify later actions then the US shouldn't have meddled in 2014. Thus "no need" to blame Russia, the US is responsible. In reality, things are much more nuanced than that logic.

#117Is this a deliberate flooding to stop troops? Like the dutch did: https://neverwasmag.com/2016/07/how-the-dutch-would-flood-th...
No, it's a scorched earth tactic, in preparation to abandoning Crimea. Without this dam, Crimea will be without water for at least next 3 to 5 years after Ukraine recaptures it.

> Meanwhile you're sitting in your comfy chairs asking for 'credible sources' and wondering which side this benefits more. But it's precisely because we're sitting in a comfy chair that we have to ask for credible sources. "Fog of War" is a real thing and disinformation campaigns have been integral to this war. Most people here couldn't pinpoint this dam on a map and it's not immediately obvious that this isn't some…
Re: The Nova Kakhovka Hydroelectric dam in Ukraine has been blown open
#119I'm not a military expert, but it seems like this will benefit the Russians, who will now have time to reinforce and strengthen their positions in Kherson Oblast on the south side of the Dnipro River at a time when Ukraine has been gaining momentum, and possibly considering crossing for a counter-offensive. From a purely positional perspective, this is a big advantage for the Russians, who benefit from a more prolong…

#120So: 1. What side does this help? 2. How does this action help that side?
