>I have stated multiple times that muslim or uygur genocide in Xinjiang is a laughable propaganda lie. That you have stated so does not mean if it is true or not. Your Chinese source doesn't change the fact that Uyghur birthrates dropped by a 60% between 2015 to 2018 according to Chinese government statistics. From 2016 there was a seven-fold increase in sterilization [1]. There are no natural reasons why that would…

> Uyghur birthrates dropped by a 60% between 2015 to 2018 according to Chinese government statistics.

First thing first. Dropped birth rate itself is from from genocide. China does not have genocide on Han people, even if the birth rate dropped significantly https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/44133954.pdf

Then, where is the source data?

The birthrate of all ethnic groups are listed in https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E5%90%84%...

Note Uyghur (维吾尔族) birth rate is 1.991 in 2000 and 1.842 in 2010. The same time the other groups vary a lot, but mostly the difference lies in the area economy development degrees. Ie, more advanced areas have lower birth rate.

Planned birth can cause drop in birth rate. As in the case of the one child policy.

Planned birth is violating human rights. But it's not genocide.

All in all, check the facts and see who are producing them. I am not a professional reporter, and I only believe extraordinary claim require extraordinary proof.

All evidence so far can only lead to the speculation that Uyghur population might be growing much slower (for that I still not see evidence that it's outlier compared to the whole population trends in China as a whole, I.e., Chiese population is undergoing huge aging and low birth rate across the nation).

If you want to link one data points to genocide, then I assue you I can come up with genocide claims in any nations on earth.

Samsung is the largest smartphone-maker in the world (and has been for much of past 10+ years). They ceased all their phone-making operation in China and left for Vietnam a couple of years ago (also most recently closed their last display, shipbuilding operation) -- along with 200+ suppliers, plus 20+ new domestic suppliers created there along the way. Now, most of Samsung phones are made in Vietnam and their output…

Samsung likely has fewer suppliers compared to Apple. And it's much easier to coordinate its supply chain with other Samsung subsidiaries, even across borders. China can as the electronics supply-chain can absolutely be replaced - at a cost.

Why does Samsung likely have fewer suppliers? Samsung makes more varieties of phones, and their phones are technically similar to Apple phones.

I'm no sympathizer to the CCP, but I don't think this argument makes sense in our time. There's a big gap between a private individual looking around, and lots of private individuals coordinating to look at everything all the time. Modern technology is making that gap larger year after year.

That argument would be more appropriate if OSM was about something other than where the streets went.

USSR/Russia also had a very long history of restrictions on accurate maps (of just about anything!), on the basis that it is a national security threat if the country ever gets invaded. Street-level maps were broadly available but deliberately falsified:

I find it interesting you see Apple a national asset needing special scrutiny. It might as well be true, but then you should also expect other countries to start dealing with Apple as a part of the US gov. and not a purely private party.

Lockheed Martin is a private company with all sorts of laws on what they can and cannot do with foreign countries. It is not weird to create special categories for niche protected industries.

Would Lockheed Martin also be negociating tax breaks with Ireland and forefront line development costs of factories in Taiwan ? Or provide separated enclaves for EU countries ?

Right now Apple is an international consumer company at its core, which makes its positioning a lot different than defense contractors or power producers for instance.

I have a secret to share. Apple and others may virtual signal but at the end of the day it's all about profits. If you believed otherwise you were mislead. "Think Different" is just a commercial slogan.

I find this attitude, as common as it is, a bit of a non-argument. Every company is motivated by profits, and yet I have vastly different opinions on the behaviours of different companies. Even when you have one ultimate goal, there are a thousand different ways to go about it, including to behave in ways I find admirable in order to secure my business going forward. It's fairly irrelevant to me why you're behaving t…

> Every company is motivated by profits, and yet I have vastly different opinions on the behaviours of different companies.

Wrong, it is survival bias. Not every company is motivated by profits, but the ones that survive long enough for you to notice are. If the company isn't motivated by profits, is simply doesn't last long enough to be a major player.

A billion dollar company (and Apple is a trillion dollar company) is a political entity. It's decisions have political effects. You cannot run a company that size and NOT expect governments of all sizes and types to come knocking with "requests".

Companies that large have too much power and need to be heavily regulated.

"Apple has, and will, fold to government pressure faster than a lawn chair." As a publicly-traded, trillion dollar company, where profits are at stake, this would seem to make sense. What does not seem to make sense is why anyone would believe Apple might ignore its own financial interests and those of its shareholders and deliberately sacrifice a major opportunity^1 in order to resist government pressure based on so…

Apple shouldn't have to. There should be laws that US companies can only cowtoe to the US government WRT free speech. In this case - it appears to only be happening in China - which I guess is fair game. But the line should be drawn at China being able to use its market to force US companies to censor people outside of China.

> it appears to only be happening in China - which I guess is fair game.

I'd say that depends on whether the subsidiary in China is financially independent from the mothership. If Apple in US profits from censorship in China or subsidizes it, it's not unreasonable for US to interfere with that.

> China simply invested more in their people than USA it seems So long as you're not Muslim.

What do you mean? China invest heavily in Xinjiang. Xinjiang GDP is 19th on the list https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%AD%E5%8D%8E%E4%BA%BA%... Per capita GDP is similarly ranked. And there are 56 minorities groups in China, they were all have specific aid program, like preferential treatment in national college exams. What's the basis of such a wishwash statement on China and the people? Are you suggesting Chin…

> Are you suggesting Chinese people are practicing racial segregation?

Lol. Are concentration camps segregation? Because if so, then yeah that is what most people (outside of china) suggest is happening.

China simply invested more in their people than USA it seems. You now see American business people like Elon Musk promote divestment from the USA in his attack on government deficits.

>China simply invested more in their people than USA it seems. when you say "invested more in their people"? what do you mean? if we are talking about education. both country offer free education to its people. College education are not compulsory and free in both countries

> if we are talking about education. both country offer free education to its people. College education are not compulsory and free in both countries

Education in China is also only compulsory through the 8th grade. Only 60% go on to high school.

Is it hypocritical to work with the US military, and not the Chinese military?

Is your justification for not working with the Chinese military that working with a military is unacceptable?

Clearly it isn't Peter Thiel's justification. So kelnos is wrong in calling this hypocrisy.
