True. You cannot expect the judicial to be apolitical if it is appointed by the other two highly political branches of government. But we pretend it is apolitical in Brazil and in the US.

There is a difference between political philosophy and being political.

A judge may be liberal or conservative but it doesn’t follow that they would represent a party platform.

Where did you read the technical arguments? The article doesn't mention them. Brazilian living abroad here. This one is particularly hilarious/concerning because they keep screaming "censorship" against the supreme court orders and censoring the press was one of the policies instituted by the AI-5 decree.

I lived through the second half of the dictatorship. I'd rather lock up those who ask for one than see my country under one.

Yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater is not free speech. This is what these people were doing - calling for the ousting of the head of the judicial branch, calling for a military coup, spreading hatred and slandering prominent figures from the left...

They need to answer for that.

More or less. I doubt Mr. Bolsonaro is going to make much effort to enforce this ruling, even if he could.

He (illegally) ordered the executive's counsel to represent the group against the judicial orders.

I agree. You may not agree with Zuckerberg's position of not censoring content (beyond the obscene), but it's probably the smartest position for the business. As soon as you start saying "well, we'll censor stuff that isn't accurate", you've opened a Pandora's box of every single interest group hammering you on every single decision and in the end everyone thinks you're screwing them over.

I don't think this accurately describes Facebook's position. They have deleted several people for essentially pure ideological reasons, including people who they readily admit violated no rules.

I'm originally from Turkey, and that's also the case with Erdoğan. I mean, they wouldn't be dictators if everyone agreed with them, no? The big problem arising from the stark polarization is that there's no uncontaminated news sources anymore. Many argue that news should be political anyway but I really miss reading stuff that doesn't fit 100 percent to a single agenda.

Polarization is exactly that, remove all gradients. Fascists like to make out everything is black-white. “Only siths deal in absolutes”

Yes, as in this case the posts in question include direct physical threats like threatening the children of judges with murder and rape.

Using social media to threaten physical violence against Bolsonaro's opponents has been a theme all throughout his time in power.
