Consumer protection? Let's ask the people in Flint how their water is. Free and fair elections? Yikes, you want to talk about this during this regime? How about voter suppression, gerrymandering, making sure minority districts have to queue for hours on voting day, electronic voting booths with accessible SD-card slots? This could be said about almost any technology.

As a non-techie, this just looks like a closed source Vivaldi clone.

None of the listed features are relevant to me ("Animations", "fresh look and feel", etc.) and my adblock performance is already adequate.

I personally prefer a browser full of built-in functionality, such as the old O12, rather than relying on extensions. Extensions add friction to browser updates and run into compatibility problems sooner or later.

UI Consistency.

You're not alone. Opera lost me for that reason as well (no menubar plus no -even simulated- MDI), and it's also one of the main reasons why I use Otter and not Vivaldi (Vivaldi does have a menu bar, but with non-native behavior).

It is not. It is too thin. I have done it. It is also too thin to read comic books. Wasted space at the bottom.

Yep, that's why I always buy 16:10 or 4:3 monitors, which work fine vertically to read PDFs which is my main activity as an academic...
