Nucleus programming language: https://github.com/zakwilson/nucleus/ It's still pretty early, possibly buggy, and almost certain to get breaking changes without warning. My original thought was to combine Lisp syntax and structural macros with C semantics and see how much extra abstraction that would provide, but variants of that idea have been tried before. They may have been compelling at a certain point in time, bu…

I am working on a Django-based JS-free forum[1] that I can self-host. Still need to work on some essential things, but the basic forum functionality is already there. [1]: https://codeberg.org/ZelphirKaltstahl/xiaolong-forum

Haha, along the same lines [1] [2] but trying to target and stay inside Cloudflare's free plan (workers, D1, R2 etc.) for hosting small simple forums of a couple hundred users. Along with AI-powered moderation. JS-ful in some parts - but mostly Rust cloudflare workers WASM. It can self-host as well in a single binary + sqlite. MIT. Trying to figure out a good defense to the bot-infestation problem next. [1]: Test sit…

I am planning to host my forum invite-only, so no randoms or bots will be able to post stuff. Additionally, if it picks up activity, I hope some of my friends would also help with moderation.

https://humansmap.com/?lb_tab=orgs 7M+ people and 3M+ organizations mapped, you can visualize entities associated with an organizations up to 1k nodes, or visualize someones graph visualization(relatives, partners, phd advisors, org connected to entity. Wikidata based. There is also a feed section: https://humansmap.com/?feed=1 Better for mobile use, here you can explore family dynasties, org memberships, interesting…

I think the concept is cool, but I tried clicking on stuff I'm familiar with, and I don't get the circles thing. For example, the French communist party (PCF) has Jacques Chirac in its first circle. He has briefly been in this party, but he mostly remembered as right-wing. Also the Fiorentina football club, should have its hall of fame striker Gabriel Batistuta in its first circle -he has a statue- while he appears i…

It uses Wikidata statements count, it is a metric of general notability.

It is not possible to have for 300k+ orgs the entities circles ordered by importance for the specific organization.

The feature is you can double click on Jacques Chirac and observe its connections to orgs like "the republicans", " rally for republic" and so on. The fun is in exploring graphs. You can also click investigate for a brief bio synthesis,

I started a 501c3 nonprofit last year to showcase / highlight relatively unknown but talented artists in other countries in Atlanta, Georgia and we finally completed a visa application to bring one of them to the US.

As an engineer it's been difficult but really fun learning to help promote visual arts, but AI helped speed up a ton of stuff I wouldn't have really know about (like setting up a kanboard to work alongside artists).

Extreme vibe coding!!!

* better squares-in-circle packing for n = 31 and n = 34: https://github.com/dllu/packing and https://erich-friedman.github.io/packing/squincir/

* vibe coded CAD application (paused due to lack of quota on my $200/mo plan). Rather doubtful if GPT-6 Astra can one shot a correct B-rep kernel but whatever: https://github.com/dllu/viboceros

* ray traced chess demo: https://github.com/dllu/chess-rtx

VO is my dynamic language, its weird but i like it. functional, OO and dynamic, its 'extendable' from within the language. - Unicode so Symbols are legit. - functions are first class objects, assignable to variables. - classes are hash with functions assigned to members giving methods. - as much as possible is defined within the language so its self extending. - pre/infix can be defined by the client programmer so pa…

what sets it apart from scheme/lisp?

on the surface probably:

* the syntax is more similar to block structured languages.

* different brackets are used in different contexts for different meanings.

* the default is infix operators.

internally:

* its not s-expressions

you can see more examples here: https://github.com/seanbutler/vo

i feel it probably has more in common with self/rebol than lisp.

https://shopspec.io/ ShopSpec is a deterministic parametric furniture generator (bookshelves, cabinets, shop carts, leg-and-rail frames, multi-carcass composites) that encodes real woodworking intelligence and outputs shop-ready artifacts. Most recently, introduced the concept of value engineering by sweeping across dimensions to batch evaluate candidates that ranks based on sheet purchases. Also have in beta an MCP…

Is this related at all to sawdust.diy which was posted last What are you working on? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49234277 . Has a really similar look and feel but different feature set

Not related, but similar. You'll see a reply from me in the thread you linked.

I've added ShopSpec to a couple Ask HN threads in the past too.

This is beautiful and I'm now itching to make a workbench (finally! that initial "how many sheets and what for what size" problem has been the mental blocker) +1.0mm vote to adding metric please!

Glad ShopSpec helped get you over the hump and appreciate the feedback. I am building a tool that I find useful for myself and previously encountered a similar pattern to what you mention.

Currently working on a redesign for my passion project website directory intrasti.com. There's websites and topics but there's a lot of focus on topics. I'd like to bring the focus away from topics and balance it out between them. The new design is going to introduce a new 'topic card' UI instead of a shelves approach that's currently live.

I've been avoiding using Tailwind or any framework as to try to identify maintainable ways to build with just the web platform in a way that I also enjoy writing code. The last day or so I've been strictly using child combinators (the > in: .container > .thing) and I've found my CSS to easier to read and less likely if not impossible to pollute child components.

Also I recently converted the whole project from a domain-driven source code organizational approach to a more flat horizontally layered approach, that's TBD on its usefulness although first impressions is that I don't feel like something could be amiss when I go to deploy whereas in a heavily domain-driven architecture I get a feeling that there seems to be a stone left unturned somewhere.
