> They would lose all of TSMC if they do any military actions. How is that? Is there an action movie style self destruct sequence?

Yes: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40441650 "TSMC EUV machines equipped with remote self-destruct in case of invasion"

Seems like a risky move - they found just fein invasion, let them nerf their entire economy and then just go home.

A few employees with sledge hammers would be enough. These are rather delicate machines.

To render inoperable sure, but invaders would surely be able to suss out some of their secrets from the remains.

I would suggest industrial espionage and luring away employees instead of invasion, if you are after secrets.

Yes, but I have a suspicion the Taiwanese plans are a bit more involved than my sledge hammer idea.

Compare any measurable economic and investment stat in EU vs US

What happens when you compare quality of life? Or workers rights? Pretty sure that your average person cares more about those two data points…

Western Europe has been mostly stagnant or declining while real incomes for most workers have actually grown in the same period (and for a significant proportion of the population to a very large degree).

The age old problem of mobile chips have brilliant performance for about 15 seconds until they thermal throttle. If you are just using apps, 15 seconds is more than enough to launch and setup an app, for anything more it will be down graded a little. Still dang impressive but the form factor becomes the limiting factor.

The browser can sometimes idle a lot until there is a touch/scroll event so it can be good for responsiveness during that kind of bursty stuff too.

aka how >95% of the users actually use phones (me including), this is enough for most

I've lived in Taiwan for a large part of my life. They would lose all of TSMC if they do any military actions. It's not the fact that the CCP thinks that they can make Taiwan and China a country, it's the the fact that most of China does in fact consider them as one country. Taiwan is ready to defend themselves, but are very happy keeping their relationship with China the way it is.

"Very happy" is a bit of a stretch, since a significant proportion of Taiwan would prefer to jettison the current pretence of being "One China" and become fully independent. But I agree that pretty much everybody will happily take the status quo over armed invasion.

Not only a few people in and from Taiwan use every chance they get to shit talk the mainland. Be it snark about using simplified characters, or be it trying to prevent their own citizens from taking part in celebrations of victory over fascism. Main theme is being against the mainland, no matter what. They are also very influenced by Japan, whose right wing PM has escalated outrage more than enough recently.

Certainly, somewhat understandable, given the "military exercises" at the doorstep happening every now and then, but also escalatory and idiotically not a good look either. Some of it is just spewed hatred, not taking a high lane when it comes to ethics.

So by that logic Apple's CPU are fast because they paid Geekbench?

Just imagine. Even free model of Gemini knows that Geekbench is Apple shill (designed for Apple on purpose).

You don't. But that's not surprising in category of religious people, always putting their beliefs over any facts or reasoning.

No, no, the best part of the internet is complaining about downvotes in a “I’m totally not mad about it” tone.

I'm having a good laugh.

I love when losers use their most powerful weapon of downvote in some twisted belief that it will somehow hurt random online people.

New CPU is 100% ARM design and nothing by Xiaomi other than "Chinese menu" configuration (i.e. how many blocks of this or that type,..). Apple CPU is a full custom design that just complies with ARM. Xiaomi Xring O3 CPU is designed by ARM and Xiaomi (as well as Mediatek) did not do any CPU design, other than custom bus interconnects, physical implementation on TSMC 3nm, an in-house NPU, and adopting next-generation L…

I wonder just how different their processes really are, considering both can be safely described as "full custom design". I write this especially in the context of apple always being about The Look, so they might also describe their design process in a more optimistical light in advertisement material. An insider take would be helpful.

> I wonder just how different their processes really are

Night and day.

Apples has in-house silicon dev groups starting (at least) 2008 w/ acquisition of PA semi for their low power CPUs, followed by the acquisition of Anobit in 2012(?). Apple does their own architecture, microarchitecture, etc, full cycle development.

Apple licenses ISA, not designs.

And by “licenses” you mean they were a founding company of the ARM consortium way back in the 1990s.

there's less corruption than in the US nowadays.

How would you know?

Presumably based on the number of news headlines where China publicly executes for corruption.
