So I'm not sure what I said that you disagree with.
You're just trolling now. How rude.

Absolutely not. I'm trying to give you the opportunity to realize that I believe product quality is important to a business.

No, you made the point of saying that anything which doesn't affect the business is unimportant. Looking at the quality of software products by the largest and most successful big tech companies, it appears quality is not important. You can see how this is contradictory.

I am not sure I understand your arguments. You seem to be taking both positions. I suspect that is because there are a few confounding variables and diverse needs AI solves and that makes a cohesive analysis hard to reach. I have a clear view that cuts through the complexity, whether you find it useful or persuasive is another matter but I’ll lay it out. 1. All intelligence has value. A Harvard MBA or Stanford CS eng…
I agree with everything you're saying. And I would also agree if you can run your business adequately on OSS models you should absolutely do that for exactly the reasons you say. All I mean is: frontier models will always have their place and I don't see a way for OSS to ever change that picture. I also worry that the economics that makes meaningful open weights model development possible may break someday but I don'…
I think AI labs are assuming that if they build and serve intelligence every one will want it. I think the last month has resulted in a lot of people saying “f u I would rather fail in life than serve you”. I personally went from feeling excited and optimistic about building amazing things on top of the models to hell bent on being self reliant and lots of my friends are doing the same.

Taken as read is the context "in Europe" here - it's a comment about European reaction to China vs America, and none of the above applies to Europe.
China didn't renege on its treaty with Ukraine who is in Europe? American isn't sanctioning Russia's oil? China isn't buying Russia's oil?
China does what it says it will do. The US lies to your face and does what it wants to. One of these is a far easier country to deal with.

Its like any other sanction, its designed to slow not stop
You misunderstood my comment. My hypothesis is that it did _neither:_ it accelerated along an axis, and American SOTA/frontier is now laggard (efficiency). Deepseek and Kimi are writing paper after paper with substantial architecture improvements for efficiency, because they can't just throw more hardware at the problem. And China is now doing something on the hardware axis; which it may have never explored were it n…
DeepSeek is doing similar work too.

The Danes colonised England. They never left but merged with the existing population. https://www.britannica.com/place/Danelaw
Not really, the genetic contribution of Danes to modern English DNA is somewhere 0-10%. There was some merging but pretty marginal.

Here in Australia the sudden withdrawal of Fable made all of us think hard about models and harnesses. I've heard half a dozen people talk about how a less advanced model coupled with a better harness outperforms a smarter model in the last few weeks. If the USA wanted to shoot its AI industry in the foot it achieved its goal.
Which products are you now using?
Opencode looks like the most promising host, though there's also OpenRouter. OpenCode Go pricing is hard to beat.
Pi looks like the best harness/tool, or I could continue with claude but not use Anthropic's models/hosting, though that has the same risks that I'm trying to move away from.
GLM looks like the best model at the moment, but I think the key is building a workflow that can switch model at will.
Docker desktop sandboxes will work with all of them, so no change there.
Getting them to work together looks like a bit of effort but not too difficult.
