> Come on. You can't live in India and think this seriously. I don't know where you live. There are states in India where minorities are absolutely safe.
I lived in Gujarat and Rajasthan, so point taken. My uncle had to flee Surat during communal violence concealed in an ambulance

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania were always part of "Russia". Would you suggest they should be invaded as soon as Ukraine is fully occupied?
> Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania were always part of "Russia" No it wasn't. Here's a quick timeline of Estonia. 1219–1346 (127 years): Danish Kingdom 1346-1561 (215 years): Livonia, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth 1561–1710 (149 years): Swedish Empire 1710–1917 (207 years): Russian Empire 1944–1991 (47 years): Soviets
Russians are good at creating false narratives.

Europe doesn't have the capacity to impose a no-fly zone on Russia. I doubt even US could pull that off. Anyway, the real concern wrt nukes is that they require people in government who are at least marginally sane and care about self-preservation. The problem with countries like Russia and Pakistan is that it's one coup away from being run by people who genuinely believe that they are fighting a holy war against som…

Maybe so, but we need you to focus on your own contributions—making sure that they're within the site guidelines and the intended spirit of HN.
What is the intended spirit of HN? Hypocrisy?

This doesn't sound factual to me. The children you quoted as being "kidnapped" lived in regions of Russia that voted to secede from Ukraine. They are defacto Russian citizens. Their parents voted for it.
Voting with a foreign military presence doesn't count. Also, a lot of the kids are orphans (their parents having been murdered by the Russians). And a lot have parents trying to trace them and get them back (there's a whole association for this).

Ask your government to uncensor the Internet and you’ll probably get plenty of credible evidence in addition to the partial confirmation by the French side and anonymous local officials. According to CNN both sides are smart enough to not cross the border so that an undeniable parade of wreckage like the one in 2019 can’t happen this time round.
I live out of India, so that doesn't really impact me.

Yes, an outside target can be used to tackle internal strife. But, there is no sign that the Pakistani army is actually in any danger of being removed from power, barring a major military defeat, nor that it will lose its autonomy over military policy. If say, India were to let this slide, the default outcome is another such attack. Given the above motivation of the military to create a conflict and the ideological b…
No, the default outcome is not another attack. This action guarantees another attack, because it has paid of in the actual PR dividends the ruling forces of both sides desired. This has zip to do with the citizens, and everything to do with party / power bloc legitimacy. Winning on economics and good governance is hard.
Why do you think Pakistan orchestrated the last attack? Do you think those reasons had anything to do with the expectation of retaliation from India?
The default is that Pakistan's motivations do not change and they keep doing what they've been doing. Ergo, another attack.
Yes this is stupid and worse for both sides, but it only takes one party to start a fight.

I mean, there is a way they didn't know it though. There aren't any hard evidences available today that prove this happened. Imo, it's pretty unlikely. Like I said, he never left the compound or ever got any sunlight. He didn't even have internet access. He passed all his messages through couriers to other people. When he was found, out of his enormous trove of documents, not a single one indicated any kind of coordi…
Why do you assume that nobody in the Pakistani military may be motivated by factors such as religious extremism, above and beyond simple utility calculations? It may very well be that some people in ISI were sheltering Bin Laden for no reason other than that he was a genuine hero to them.
It is also possible, that he just was able to hide from the entire world close to an army base in a compound he never exited from, never approached a window near, and never accessed internet from.
Everything is possible, there's no proof either way. And I don't see what the govt or army or ISI would gain from harboring him as a policy matter. If someone is crazy and personally helped out, that's not what most people are even implying is it? That's much more reasonable and doesn't really have much to do with the current conflict and the claim that the latest terror attack was sponsored by Pakistan (again, possible but not proven)
