Sidestepping the issue of the US's labour laws, I almost feel like this is what a healthy software industry should look like . You go in, you build, and when the job is done, you leave. We just haven't figured out how to get the job done yet.

If only employers are capable of communicating that expection to prospective employes in an honest manner instead of doing the whole "we are a family" gaslighting act.

If any tech worker is more than two years out of school and is naive enough to believe that and are not always prepared to change jobs, I have no sympathy for them

> Spotify Connect is a real game changer. That sounds like a minor quality of life feature, hardly a "game changer". Do you think this is impossible for other companies to replicate?

> Do you think this is impossible for other companies to replicate? They are welcome to do so at any time of their choosing. It's only been an entire decade since the feature launched, I'm sure the competition will figure it out soon. For the most part, the only one I've seen that has more features than what is provided by basic google cast / airplay is ironically Youtube Music.

TIDAL has had it for a couple of years now https://tidal.com/connect

I didn’t know they have that many people (9000) to work for a single product. I’ve been a subscriber for more than 5 years and the app on the iPhone just gets worse everyday. Why? - daily updates is gone. This is where I can get a snapshot of all new releases from artists I love. I’m not sure if Release Calendar is the new one but I don’t bother to check. - I listen to classical and the song title naming is just subp…

If you primarily listen to classical music, Apple's new Classical Music app (part of its Music subscription) is *fantastic*.

What's not fantastic is apple's lock down of their ecosystem. I'm not paying for some lacking android app by Apple.

another nice option is Qobuz, the sound quality is good for the newer releases.

I hope they fired the person who came up with "smart shuffle" and thought tying the shuffle button to a successful network call was a good idea

The successful network call condition is particularly frustrating. However, I enjoy the feature on the whole.

Seriously such a buggy and undesirable feature. Smart shuffle replaced the default shuffle for me on all interfaces that didn't get updated to switch between the two shuffles, so on Android Auto, the only shuffle option was smart shuffle and I had to use my phone to switch to dumb shuffle.

Then it isn't even really smart or a shuffle. It just inserts the same 3 songs, in every playlist regardless of how well it would fit.

So... Bodybuilders do this thing called "bulking and cutting." The best way to add muscle fast is to overeat. Work out lots. Sleep lots. Eat lots. You get fat, but you also get muscular because food is never a limiting factor. Then, they lose the extra fat with a crash diet. Google, FB and such are such money machines that they never have to cut. They can just bulk. The others... they want some of that rapid growth p…

Not sure what you are trying to achieve by saying something so blatantly untrue that a two-word query into any search engine can debunk it as fast as your browser loads a web page.

What in the absolute fuck are 10000 people doing at Spotify? Really try to crunch those numbers mentally here. It's insane.

Supporting half a billion constant users around the world, and staff dealing with local artists and bands from almost every single country. Even outside of engineering they need a ton of support staff — starting from marketing to lawyers. Every country is fairly different as well when it comes to “music style”, so there’s a significant tailoring I would say. They’re doing whatever they’re doing pretty well as well. I…

> Supporting half a billion constant users around the world

I am sure curl does too, with one guy running it. Spotify is not a telephone company. The engineering work hardly scale with the amount of users. There should be a need for some extra sales staff, lawyers and translators per market.

Their engineer staff numbers are just silly.
