How is it other people’s problem that you block a site that they’re on? (Fwiw I have Twitter blocked too, though not for moral reasons)
Nobody's saying it's anybody else's problem - they're just looking forward to more content being on Mastodon (or elsewhwere) as people move away from X.
The subtext is clearly “jkb, please move to Mastodon cause I blocked Twitter”. Not spelling that out doesn’t make it a lot less weird IMO.

It had all started a bit earlier with a colleague (I assume that's you up there, jkb79 :) pulling the leg of a guy visiting us from the Bangalore office, about the polar bears roaming the streets of Trondheim. We just thought we'd prank him a bit about having more dangerous animals than they did in India. Nothing too serious. So a few months later I woke up early one morning and saw it had been snowing all night. I m…
> the Dangerous Wildlife War between India and the home of the proper vikings. Was there an other side to this war? The most dangerous animal you're likely to come across (realistically, without getting photoshop involved) in an average Indian street would be a monkey. I've also come across many varieties of snakes, from time to time, but they're generally chill and just want to be left alone. The monkeys are ruthles…

In March 1999, a share of CSCO was worth about $26. At its peak a year later, March 2000, it was worth about $82 (3x increase.) [0] I don't know about you, but that seems likely to be an excessively inflated figure to me (a la the dot-com bubble.) Comparing any company's value to its valuation during the dot-com bubble seems silly to me. [0] https://finance.yahoo.com/chart/CSCO
They're also returning like $6 billion/year to their shareholders via dividends -- if they had just hoarded that cash, their share price would obviously be much higher.

Try telling that to Apple.
Little known fact… It is believed that Apple paid the Beatles a little over $500 million for Apple Corp trademark rights so they could market “Apple Music” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Corps_v_Apple_Computer

#127So what exactly does Yahoo do these days?
Ex-yahoo here (Quit in 2022, at the height of salary boom :) Yahoo is a profitable company with atleast 5B $ in revenue. Search and Mail are extremely profitable businesses. When was the last time you changed your mail id? Search is atleast 2B $ plus in revenue. Mail is 1B $ plus in revenue. Yahoo Finance, Yahoo sports, yahoo news are all highly trafficked websites although I dont know the revenue numbers. I do wager…

It definitely could not have done that. In the same year that Google had Borg, and AWS released EC2, at Yahoo, David Filo was still personally reviewing hardware requests.
But like Amazon, Yahoo had developed scalable solutions in-house to run Yahoo. That was Amazon's motivation for launching AWS. They had already developed all these solutions for themselves and got the idea to monetize their infrastructure. I don't see why Yahoo couldn't have done the same thing. Plus Yahoo was sitting on Hadoop until it got spun off. And the kicker is Yahoo briefly started to offer enterprise big dat…
