Cut down on screen time.
In 2022 I dramatically reduced my time in THE SMARTPHONE ABYSS by choosing a single spot in my home and always leaving my phone there to charge. I don't bring my phone into other rooms -- it stays on the kitchen counter. But my "phone home" didn't help the compulsive notification checking, so I "extinguished" all notifications. The only notifs I now receive are for phone calls. In 2023, I'd like to go on phoneless ad…

#163Play more video games. I feel like this year I haven't had a chance to get lost in a great video game's narrative. Spent far too much time trying to be productive and not just taking a break to relax. Btw if anyone has any suggestions for games to play. Please share.
Maybe not the best story (although it's really good) but the intersection of presentation and prose is exceptional. One of the few times the medium has really surpassed raw text on the storytelling metric.
Some of those narrative sequences will stay with me for the rest of my life.

#164I cut my podcast subscriptions down to the bone. Every night I go for a 3 mile walk and listen to a podcast. This year I want to go for walks and listen to my brain. Just the thought scares me.

#165I'd like to learn a little Italian, I should keep trying to pickup bits of French too. If anyone knows any technology based news sites in Italian it would be really helpful

#168I recommend choosing yearly themes instead of resolutions! Themes are a little more flexible :) For example, next year will continue to be my Year of Trailblazing! In 2022, I tackled fatherhood and sobriety; in 2023, I'm starting a company and doing a 550-mile bicycle ride. --- [1] https://taylor.town/yearly-themes [2] https://www.aidslifecycle.org
Oh you're in for a treat in 2023 then! 550 mile is very specific. Already planned the route? And please do tell us about that company you're starting:) Whatever happens, best of luck! Both are gonna be a wild ride, but you'll keep great memories for a lifetime!
My mission for this company is to (1) prevent AI from devastating human economies and (2) fix gig work. My investors won't be happy if I say more than that, but I should be making some exciting announcements later this year on my website.
I'm also organizing a tiny tech conference in Southern California (Sept 2-3) so email me at hello@taylor.town if you'd like to join us!

Many don't realize how much control porn has over them until they try to quit. Quitting for 1 day, 1 week can be easy. Quitting for a year? Almost everyone who regularly watches will struggle to do so. Don't let the struggle discourage you. If you give in, try to get back up asap. Even if you don't make it 100% porn free year its not a failure. Wish you the best.
I don't understand why one would quit porn. It's great entertainment. It increases quality of life. It's an integral part of one's sex life. Why would one want to quit?
I disagree with both these assumptions. Curious why you think so?
