Economic damage is real damage. If you break windows, and the govt has to repair those windows, it has less money to spend on welfare and charity and doing other stuff that a govt wants to do.
Too bad Australia, Canada and the EU don't have the 4th and 5th Amendments.

One YouTube journalist even got the police on camera conspiring to press fake charges so they could give him no internet bail conditions, and thus stop his future recording of those events. No media reported it.
The leaders were all charged with incitement, encouring others to do illegal things (like going outside).
You could argue the overreach that these people experienced is now being applied to other dissenting groups.

Police were barging into homes with search warrants, in one case handcuffing a pregnant mother in front of her kids because she encouraged people to go protest on facebook. Simply writing a comment about these protests was enough to be charged with incitement. [0]
There were hundreds of arrests each weekend for attending protests made illegal by public health laws. The same laws people were marching in the street about. Thousands punished by the legal system for exercising their basic democratic right. [1]

Which largely exist because American health costs for an injury are life destroying, so few people can just eat the hospital bill.
Think it's probably more because unlike other Anglo jurisdictions, American lawyers can take matters on contingency, whereas at best UK/AUS/NZ lawyers can take them with conditional costs that significantly limit upside to the lawyer. This is also why the UK/AUS have such well developed litigation funding industries compared to the USA.
Is there a decent country left in the world? One that values privacy, family values, private property and freedoms, knows a man from a woman and is not at war?
