Well, Japan has APPI and as far as I know APPI is semi-equivalent to GDPR (which would be the EU's "horrible" Internet law, which doesn't apply only to the Internet btw). So you might hate Japan as well, right?

And then only one company would have enough moderators. Moderators are a finite resource, there aren't even enough humans alive to moderate all content on all platforms.
But, the law goes "well figure something out, you have to moderate", and now we've by law guaranteed that whatever solution that gets implemented to follow the letter of the law is going to be shit, because it's by definition going to be automated content moderation, and given the volumes involved, it's modern neural-net based because that's the only technology that's even remotely shown it has an over 50% success rate.

Somehow it's only Fanbyte that have this problem with people in Turkey / Serbia etc. Why has no other publisher went to such measures?
Incredibly, they had a remote employee in Serbia, so when they banned all these countries, they banned one of their employees. Last I heard they were telling him to use a VPN to bypass their own corporate rules (which they have admitted exist to dodge Serbian laws...!)
Because if the company has no physical presence in a certain country, they can basically ignore their laws, because what’s the country going to do? Block your website?
