Is Delta more deadly? I thought that was not really believed to be the case any more, just that it is much more transmissible. I could totally be wrong though; it's hard to find reliable info.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/delta-variant-has-... > However, the highest risks were from the Delta variant. In the Delta cases, there was a 108% increase in the risk of hospitalization, a 235% increased risk of ICU admission, and a 133% higher risk of death, compared with the original variant. Its very rare, but it does happen. Delta is proof of it. But chances are, we won't roll "snake eyes" again on t…

The public must know the virus is still evolving. If you don't give them the full information somebody comes up with a new conspiracy theory. I am really tired of reeducating my family everyday against the old fake news that are still circulating.

I prefer them to be scared from something real than from something fake.

A little help from governments is welcome.

> Delta was simultaneously more infectious and more deadly than the original variant. That's not my understanding

It's well known it's more infectious, and widely suspected to be more deadly. See both https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/why-is-de... and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/delta-var...

Those pronouncements have no basis whatsoever

Go read all those papers, none of them support the claims that the vaccination accelerates or causes mutation. It's unfortunate scientists love to stake a claim on trying to win a huge argument when they can't see the forrest from the trees and they exclude as much evidence as they cherry pick. We've defeated things before with immunization. No one ran around saying get the whooping caugh because if you get a shot it…

Says who? Vanden Bossche has been a credentialed expert in vaccines for 20 years. I'll take his opinion over some HN comment.

> No one ran around saying get the whooping caugh because if you get a shot it will mutate

That was never his argument.

-1, viruses are not sentient and are only given pressure to not kill their hosts if that reduces transmissability... which specifically doesn't apply for COVID, which is asymptomatically transmissable .

If you're dead you can't continue to transmit the virus, so lethality absolutely does decrease transmissibility. The fact that some people can be asymptomatic and contagious doesn't change that.
