Aliens are demons, they don’t need special machines to fly through the air and probe people’s butts in the middle of the night.
I think we need to be a bit more imaginative rather than just jumping to "aliens" every time. There are other possible explanations that are just as fun! An animal species we've never seen before, for example. Or time travelling humans. Or maybe one guy happened across faster-than-light travel in his garage and is hoarding it from everyone else.

I wonder if we get good data in the report. The flybys of U.S. Navy ships had to have produced lots of sensor data. In particular, synchronized radar data, or electro-optical data if we're really lucky, from several ships in a task group would resolve many ambiguities.
