So am I.
That was nothing. Insurrection my ass. Call me when the political assassinations start.

Re: Apple has threatened to ban Parler from the App Store
#212I don't understand what people don't get about the 1st amendment. A right to free speech, is set in stone in the US Constitution, a private company can enforce their own censorship, but having a company that wants to have the 1st amendment and is being forced to be shut down is not what the US is about. Threats and actions to commit treason should be handled by authorities and prosecuted. But someone saying they don'…
There was a substantial amount of hard evidence in the Russia interference claims, and the FBI has confirmed that.
Also nobody died in relation to those claims, AFAIK. There were marches and impeachment proceedings, but nobody broke into the Senate chambers and shouted "that election was a lie".

#213> Mi sono rotto il cazzo che non sono d’accordo con te / ma morirei affinché tu possa dire la tua stronzata
which translates to:
> I’m fucking sick of the fact that I do not agree with you / but I would die for you to be able to express your bullshits.
The news at hand give me hope that the US (and the world by extension) is somewhat reacting to the ultra-nationalism and populism that have been driving the last years, but at the same time censoring and banning social unrest platforms always leaves a terrible taste…

#215There's an amusing irony in the downvotes in this thread. The champions of free-speech angry that Apple might ban a platform for speech that ultimately led to an attempted insurrection? These champions of free speech seem to be agressively trying to silence anybody happy about this news.
It was not an attempted insurrection. It was a show of force.

#216Parler, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook were definitely used to storm Congress. Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook also were definitely used to burn down parts of Minneapolis, Chicago, and LA. Massive Big Tech conglomerates must be busted through antitrust enforcement and Section 230 must be updated to ban predatory algorithms which have inflamed 7 years of sectarian chaos. It's not a free speech issue:…
Absolutely. The only reason Parler is getting banned and Facebook isn't is because Facebook is too big to fail. Facebook and Twitter have the same amount of questionable content, just better PR and bigger clout.

Further escalation beyond storming the capitol? Becuase that's what tolerance has resulted in.
There are a lot of higher steps, just look at US history. For example, the mob could murder someone. In the bad old days of civil rights resistance, the mob would regularly engage in homicide against targets they thought were upsetting their power.

Can you remind me how long ago has antifa / BLM started its owned armed insurrection (especially in Seattle & Portland) ?
Were these people attempting to directly attack a legislative body as it performed its constitutional duty? I thought not.
Also, Antifa was planning an attack on the white house after election day.

Yah. IMO-- only the most directly dangerous stuff -- incitements to violence-- should be removed. If you chase them out of Twitter, they'll make an even worse echo-chamber. > Their legal cases are rejected. The mainstream media refuses to take them seriously. > If you deny them the usual channels, is it surprising that they take the other route? On the other hand, if what they're asserting is crazy and unsupported by…
> On the other hand, if what they're asserting is crazy and unsupported by fact, what's the alternative? How is this any different from the entirety of human history? America has gotten along quite fine without a central Ministry of Information directing what people should and should not believe is true. It is especially galling to think that some content moderators in the very narrow slice of society in Bay Area tec…
Not only that, but people like you and me who comment in defense of it are fading from the major platforms. For each of us who grew up with free speech as the cornerstone right in a free and just society, there seem to be many others who did not ever care about this, or actively seek to destroy it for the benefit of their own group.
It's worth remembering just how many warnings that this would happen eventually we have been left historically. Centuries of being reminded that people would come for these rights if we did not defend them. I never thought it was going to have to be our generation, though.

You're proposing to remove a very large, very alienated group's last public channel to express themselves peacefully. This risks further escalation. This is compounded with the stark contrast to how the protests were handled this summer.
