What is “the other route”?

They are being deplatformed because their speech is violent and damaging—in many cases it’s literal incitement to violence. Their legal cases are being rejected because they have no legal merit. The mainstream media refuse to take them seriously because they have again and again shown themselves to be bad faith actors, peddlers of unsubstantiated conspiracy, outright liars, and so on. I don’t need anybody to tell me any of the above secondhand—they themselves, via Twitter accounts and so on, are primary sources.

All things are not equal. Order and chaos are not equivalent. If a rabid cougar gets loose in a shopping mall, it does not earn the right to be there just by being there (de facto) and being really, really mad. It’s going to hurt people if we let it do its thing, and we take whatever measures we have to to get rid of it for the greater good of society.

I agree. It would be very dangerous if people in charge, say, prohibited Apple (a private company) from removing Parler. Thankfully, the 1st amendment is still in power and Apple is free to express itself as it sees fit.

I'm fine with Parler being banned, but for what it's worth:

I think you can be pro free-speech, and still be happy to use the downvote button. The downvote button is an agreed upon and standard way of expressing disagreement on the site, so is in itself a part of free-speech.

That said downvoting a well-reasoned, but contrary-opinioned comment is clearly against the intention of the button, which weakens my argument a bit.

Apple isn't deplatforming Parler, but they are requiring they implement moderation. The sole purpose of Parler is to avoid getting moderated, so this is ultimately the same thing.

If Parler users can't make threats of violence and hate, what is the point of the platform at all?
