Nobody deleted Trump's posts. Twitter a) attached a "this may be misleading" link to one of them with the link leading to more reputable information on the subject, and b) hid the inflammatory one behind a warning about inciting violence, with a clear and present "View" button available. To my mind this is exactly the right approach: the original content remains fully available for those who would cry censorship, yet…

Seems like plenty of people read/heard about it anyway.

If you are a Facebook/WhatsApp/Instagram employee, you must know by now that these companies won't change by inside forces. If you work in these companies, you are an accomplice of everything of bad that is happening in the world: from climate change apologists, the destruction of Amazon by Brazil's government, the killing of black people by American police.

I went to university in Texas and so many people went to work in the Oil industry and even with an awareness of climate change issues, whenever I questioned them the answer was "Oil is a critical part of our energy infrastructure and someone will need to figure out how to get it out of the ground." It was fair reasoning but I always thought "you are a bright engineer, you don't have to be the person figuring this out…

Yup, you can hear similar argument from meat eaters.

Except it has been proven that people using FB and whatsapp have incited violence in India and other places and that often people can't or won't evaluate claims with a focus on facts and evidence.

Has the world lost its collective mind? Imagine discriminating based upon the employees work history. Who the fuck are you, mate? This is like throwing away a resume because the developer worked for a Pornhub subsidiary. “Oh this person worked in the adult industry, he probably wanked off all day. Hard pass. No interview or screening by actual technical people.” Take a hard look in the mirror, you might see yourself…

Seriously? That's pretty much the whole point of a resume, for an employer to discriminate based on work and education history.

It sounds weird when said in a negative way, but it makes all the sense in the world when you think of it "positively", like "of course companies should prefer to hire someone that worked at a top company or graduated from a top school".

Why not? The president intends to address to the people he serves and facebook, among others, is an effective means of doing so.

Among thousands of other reasons, it's an exclusionary and (potentially) ephemeral mechanism.

I don’t like Trump, but I can’t exactly fault Trump for twitter because he found a way to side step a media that dislikes him (justified or not).

Try to put yourself in his shoes, you would absolutely use an effective tool that the people you didn’t trust to deliver your message had no control over.

And the lady doth protest too much when it comes to the media talking about Trump Tweets. They love it, free programming for an hour or two.

See my other reply on this same thread. I would never work for Philip Morris in the same way I would never work for FB.

This mentality is extremely dangerous because it cuts both ways: imagine companies discriminating against employees because they believe abortion is a right, or because they are strong 2A supporters or detractors.

If we go down this path, we _all_ end up losers. Attacking the employees is really not the way to go, in the end, they are the ones with the least leverage to influence anything.

Yeah, the OP should have numbered them 10, 20, 30, and 40, so the GP could insert a needed line in between...

Man, this is triggering more memories of programming in Basic. I remember writing programs in BASIC (as a kid/teen, mind you) where I didn't plan enough for changes and had to renumber swaths of code to allow more functionality. I was so happy to learn Pascal.

Political beliefs are not a protected class in the US.
