>>This is actually a fairly recent change to Android if by "recent" you mean "almost since the beginning" then sure. The app permissions system has gotten better over time, more fine grained, ability to deny permissions while still install the app, and other features, but the basic list of "if you install this app it gets X access" has been there for a long long time, v2 or v3 if I remember correctly

The ability of accepting/rejecting specific permissions is from Android 6.

Yes but my comment was "Displays a list of permissions" not allow you to pick which permissions

I do not believe the first version if iOS has the ability to reject specific permissions either.

My anecdotal evidence has been the opposite. My daughter has always been an Apple user and she has had so many more issues with her phone. Either she never upgraded her phone due to storage limitations because she refused to uninstall certain apps. He screen twice has twice peeled off. The battery expanded and now it glitches every hour but she is stuck because there is NO HEAD PHONE JACK. So she keeps saying do I bu…

Siri is definitely Apples biggest weakness, but the headphone jack? The phone comes with a little adapter. If you're a person who has tons of nice headphones laying around, but a couple more adapters and call it a day. Is it a bit of inconvenience at first? Sure, but don't act like there is no way to plug in headphones or that it's the end of the world. And Duo? I'm a tech person and I can't keep all of the Google co…

I agree Google has screwed up the choice of communication offerings. But from a use case point, one can very well argue why need one for messaging and one for talking (iMessage and Facetime). Instead WhatsApp does everything in one - dead simple. (In fact, Skype did this too but they never properly capitalized).

I've been using Android since 2.x and I sell to remember it has always been like this. The recent change iirc is being able to decline a certain privilege and still use the app.

Yeah, they'd show you a list of a dozen things that the app was going to use and you basically just tapped the "accept" button because you wanted the app to have access to your photos except now it has access to your contacts, location history, notification center, and firstborn child. Android Marshmallow brought improvements in this area, though.

Yes an a responsible person that downloaded a photo app that requested access to "your contacts, location history, notification center, and firstborn child" would choose not to install it.

If you continue to install those apps you only have yourself to blame IMO

My whole family (parents, sister & her kids, wife & our kids) have switched to iPhones (and macos devices) years ago. Result: 1. no "technical" issues anymore. As the go to IT guy in the family this alone is worth the supposed premium price one pays for the Apple logo. 2. Everything is updated, at all times. 3. "Facebook logs my sms" are a none issues 4. All devices die of old age (even the devices that have since lo…

Completely mirrors my experience as well. My wife used to have a Note and she would constantly have issues with the phone that I would have to deal with. Since buying her an iphone 6 years ago, ZERO issues. NO tech support from me. That alone is worth the price of admission. Same with dropbox, I pay the $99/yr gladly because it means my wife isn't asking me about the baby photos and if they're safe in the flash drive…

Who the hell still uses Dropbox when there are superior offerings like Google Photos/Drive. In fact even OneDrive is better from a reliability and cost viewpoint.

For my job as an app Product Manager, I use several different devices on a daily basis. I also switch between an iPhone and Android phone as my personal device every half year or so, to stay up-to-date with both platforms. I think articles like these are interesting to read, but not relevant anymore. iPhones and high-end Android devices both offer a mature user experience, and you can't objectively say that one is be…

iPhones and high-end Android devices both offer a mature user experience, and you can't objectively say that one is better than the other. I agree. Both are great. It boils down mostly to: - Are you in the Google ecosystem: Google Apps are greater on Android. - Do you use a Mac: iDevices and Macs do handoff (you can take your phone calls on the Mac, continue typing an e-mail on your iDevice, etc.). - How many years a…

While the transition of management screwed it, Moto X 2013 was one of the best Android phones manufactured.

But on Android pretty much any app does this. Just look at what Google Photos needs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.and...

This is the review I'd really like to see. I'm not interested in "first impressions" or "1 month in". I'm interested what happens after a year, two or even three years. I have an iPhone 6S+, and it works almost flawlessly - animation is still good, very few app glitches, and even the original battery is in decent shape. I'd like to hear how Androids from that era fare compared to iPhones from that era - because I pla…

> I'm interested what happens after a year, two or even three years. I can write an older version of this review, so it may be a bit out of date now. I owned the iPhone 1, 3g, 4, 4s, got tired of waiting for a larger less expensive phone, and moved to Android. I had the HTC One X, Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 (also a Nexus 7 tablet). I move back to the iPhone for the 6, and have had the 6s, 7+, and now the X. The One X was a…

Thank you for your thorough review. The last Android device I used was a Samsung S3 which was very glitchy. Your review matches my experience and confirms my suspicions (based on that experience) that Android phones will never be as polished and "just work" as Apple devices.

There is no Apple in my country. I can't call them and they certainly won't come pick up my phone.

For places that do not have apple stores they usually have authorized repair centers. These arent as convenient as walking into an apple store but usually still better than shipling them something and waiting weeks to get it back.

Yes, there is an Apple authorized repair center. I had a sticky key on my laptop. It took them two weeks to fix it. They claimed it was because they don't keep parts in stock and have to order them from overseas.

Used iphone for 4-5 years, and switched to Pixel 1. Initially, thought it was crap and regretted it. 6 months later - it beats a lot of my experiences with the iPhone. Only a few things are well done on iPhone than on Android, and I am not going back to iPhone for sure.
