Pangram says "100% AI-generated". I trust Pangram more than I trust this author's word.
Are you serious? Pangram is notorios for false positives!

Understandable but why would you assume people will stop getting a taste for hacking just because LLMs exist? Why will they stop just because of that? Technology will make them lazy just because they can prompt an AI now? I think the human drive for excellence and tinkering cannot just be vanished just because LLMs exist. And I don't under the fat and out of shape part of the comment. Being in shape and being good at…
In my experience, using LLM's for generating code has definitely dulled my capacity to think about function hierarchies, composition and having a "picture" in my head of what will go where in the repository. Raw "leetcode" algorithm intuition and database modelling/SQL are still largely intact for me because I never trust LLMs for those and want to actually understand what I'm building. But it's scary to think how ea…
Furthermore, if you can see it so transparently and have put a stop gap, why do you think the rest of the world or programmers will not? Why will they fall into the temptation that you can resist? Especially if we are talking about that specific subset of people that are already really good at coding and understand the pitfalls pretty well.
Maybe you can make the argument that someone who purely vibecodes never gets the skills of raw algorithm intuition/specific knowledge but in those cases, no skills get eroded because there were none to begin with.

If you are waiting for someone else to make a good product for you with AI, you are missing out. The best AI products have userbase of one.
The best AI products have a userbase of one. The average AI product has a userbase of zero.

This article is not AI generated. Everyone is asserting it is but the author is well known as a critic of these tools in his communities. Why would he lie and use it to write an article with his genuine views, edit it to assuage the feelings of HN commenters, and then double down? Speedrunning losing his credibility, or, his writing style got on some people's nerves?

Pangram is a complete scam. There is no durable way to detect whether something was written with AI. I've had folks say they ran pangram on my writing and it was "100% AI". Except I don't use AI to write or edit anything I post publicly.
Free money, right?
Re: Taste Is All That's Left
#537I have mixed feelings... I stumbled upon, read a post-mortem that looks even more AI-generated than the article. "That says something about my writing. It says nothing about who wrote it." - Two contradicting sentences, author's writing skills are part of the author as-a-whole "The short sentences, the reversals, the one-word lines" and then "I will write the next one plainer.". - even more? And... I wonder if this i…
> I'm sincerely sorry for publishing something that has allowed you to feel this way. What fresh hell is this? If this is human then I wish it was AI
> I do not care about your taste.
But taste is all that we have left.
And then this:
> If this posts has offended you, then it tells more about you than it does about me.
So the author can't take any criticism.

I think they're trolling us. Their post-mortem is a very AI-sounding (and Pangram-triggering) claim that they're not using AI: This post reads off as AI slop. You said it, I see it. I’m sincerely sorry for publishing something that has allowed you to feel this way. If my word means anything to you, I would like to assure you that this post was not authored by a LLM. Nor was it storyboarded, reviewed, checked, etc. by…
> the one-word lines The funny thing is that there are no "one-word lines". This more or less cements the fact that it must be AI in my mind.

I agree Pangram's UI is awful and often misleading. Their underlying classifier model is pretty accurate in my experience, though, at least in the sense that it has very few natural false positives. If you disagree, please send me some long-form verifiable false positives that were not explicitly written to trick Pangram. I love to learn.
I just sent you a long article which you could not have read in the time it took you to reply. I would suggest you start there and read that article, which outlines several cases where the author was able to create contrived false positives and negatives.
