That also allows me to not let sites ask and force essential cookies everywhere. or block tracking altogether. these cookie banners collectively wasted billions of hours for no gain.

Thank Google. There is no way they'd implement blanket config. Therefore neither will Firefox.

The point is, instead of retarded cookie banner requirements, EU could require that instead. Then google/ff would be forced to implement

I’ve been hearing that about EU, China and Japan for the past 20 years in different degrees. Two generations were born and a lot of people have passed away in that period. Even if EU’s QoL is on borrowed time, at least it has it for some time.

20 years is awfully small time.

It's getting bad now. It'll be terrible after 20 more years if course is not corrected.

You're right, the EU does have a lot of capital, but its not made available to European business.

It IS available to businesses, but only to those with the correct political connections.

As someone who worked in several Eurescom research projects back in the early 90s and watched it all get steamrolled by actual pragmatic work done in telcos and US manufacturers, I have zero faith in this even as a political/independence gesture.

There are loads of people who think "there is no moat and Europe can do this" (including the Portuguese government, which announced a Portuguese LLM at WebSummit--which, hilariously, is being trained on a research "supercomputer" in Spain), and they have no idea how far (politically, economically and pragmatically) Europe's tech scene is from the US. Other than Mistral, of course.
