Well, you knocked those straw men down. I guess that settles it. Drones are exactly like windows aren't they?
Talking about straw men, he also mentioned guns and toy rockets.

RealSense uses projected IR and thus doesn't work outdoors. (edit: because short-range and little ambient IR are required)
Thanks for the tip. Are there any portable technology that would work outdoors ?
LIDAR works already but is heavy, power hungry and expensive. Not good for these small vehicles.

#354I've been designing, building and flying model airplanes and later helicopters since I was ten years old. I've always flown in the context of a registered flying club and carry one million dollars insurance for my activity. I continue to be horrified by what is happening with these multicopters. People fly them outside of controlled environments and with a total lack of consideration towards others or their property.…

That is until your cheap drone hits a paraglider, or other light vehicle that is actually allowed to operate in this air space. In most legislations I am aware of, RC flight requires an operator to be in control of the drone.
I would love Mythbusters to throw the biggest drone you can get into a jet engine. Pretty sure nothing, but some good entertainment would happen.

Amazing. Lily is like half the price of the rest. Where did you get the $ price? Right now it's $500, no real options, right? The price just seems unbelievably low compared to all the other options.
In any case, I don't believe that's the entire cost of the unit, I think that's just 'put x dollars down to be put on the preorder list' and you just might have to pay the full amount later.

#358What happens when the battery is low or when I give it a tad too much spin?
"Whoops, did I just lob my $500 gadget into solid concrete?"
Well, I suppose it probably has safer take-off modes, too. Can't wait until they shrink it down to tennis ball size.

that would be a much safer setup but don't see these consumer drones implementing all that!
A consumer follow-me quad with a youtube camera launched via kickstarter? Probably not. A future DJI aerial photography product with a 4000-8000 price tag? Absolutely. If Amazon ever intends to deploy these for actual package delivery instead of just PR they'll need redundant computers with a voting system, fault tolerant flight control algorithms with some kind of fault case detection and some kind of failsafe parac…
Optical flow can hold pretty stable when GPS is unavailable, other types of CV like SLAM even better.

We live in a society with motor vehicles. They are here to stay. It doesn't matter what their safety record may be or under which parameters they are operated. Drones are an entirely separate issue. We do not live in a society with drones. Period. Now if we would like to introduce them into our society it doesn't matter what laws or regulations are established for their safe operation without on-board fail safes thei…
Nobody is okay with that, it's an asinine question. Am I okay with my new born infant's soft little squishy skull living in a world with drones, which occasionally drop out of the sky? Yep. And we do live in that world, actually. They've already been "introduced," as you put it.
Already been introduced(bad term)? So 1 in 3 households have a drone in the U.S.? OK 1 in 4? You can always count on this statistic- 1 in 10? Nah? Surely 5% of Americans own or use the services of a drone then right? Yeah then they haven't been introduced yet
