Sorry to be the voice of Bill Cosby but my read of this is that black men are killing each other and then going to prison for it (drug charges are responsible for maybe 20% of people in prison - ie stats would still be largely same without the drug war). And somehow that's everybody else's fault?

Re: 1.5 Million Missing Black Men
#72The black women left behind find that potential partners of the same race are scarce,...The imbalance has also forced women to rely on themselves — often alone... There is a pretty obvious solution to this problem which has been legal since 1967. It works well and the babies come out really cute. Weird how the NYT glosses that over...
Interracial marriage only works as a "solution" if there were an inverse imbalance in other racial communities to supply the men needed to fulfil the shortfall. It also completely ignores the fact that people in the black communities may not wish to date people from other races. it isn't a breading farm after all, people's choices matter a lot. If black woman want to date a black man, that is completely normal/unders…
And of course it is a valid choice for them to date whomever they want, but if they would only accept doctors with perfect tens and perfect abs then we would just shake our heads and ignore them. So why aren't we doing so now?
Heck there are a lot of single men in Silicon Valley who would be decent dating material - so why care so much about the color of that persons skin?

Yet another reason why a society only is as stable and wholesome as its average nuclear family unit.
Scandinavians have a very low rate of marriage and a high divorce rate, and yet are as stable and wholesome as you can imagine.
I'm going to see if I can scare up some data regarding families in Scandinavia, but I don't think your point necessarily contradicts the parent post.

This dynamic has always frightened me about China's "one child" generation coming of age. Instead of a group of disaffected Jihadists, you have a large and influential political force in an increasingly belligerent and powerful nation.
> increasingly belligerent I'd argue that China's belligerence is lower now than it has been. They've moved from a very communist that strongly distrusted and arguably even hated the West, to a semi-capitalist one who mostly just wants to compete with the West (and makes oodles of $$$ selling to us). The US has been drum-beating against China a lot recently, but frankly that seems more about the US losing in the "tra…

They weren't glossing over it. The majority of people (black and otherwise) look for romantic partners that are much like themselves. That means same race, same ethnicity, same socioeconomic status, same religion, same sort of background (upbringing, culture, values, etc.). There are conscious and subconscious and cultural reasons why it may be desirable for people to do this and it is pretty socially acceptable to o…
>The majority of people (black and otherwise) look for romantic partners that are much like themselves. This doesn't seem to be the case in Canada. My sister is married to an Indian fellow. My girlfriend was born in Xiamen. During high school a huge percentage of relationships were mixed race. Canada is a melting pot and it seems to work well.

Imagine for a moment a community where 50% of men over 18 are or have been in prison. If you erase 20% of that number then you have a community with a 10% bump in its productive male population. I would imagine that boost in available parents would keep some of those young men from ever slipping into cyclical violence.

#78> The black women left behind find that potential partners of the same race are scarce, while men, who face an abundant supply of potential mates, don’t need to compete as hard to find one. As a result, Mr. Charles said, “men seem less likely to commit to romantic relationships, or to work hard to maintain them.” Interesting, I never thought about this side-effect of mass incarceration. Another aggravating factor in…
> women are arguably less war-prone than men I don't think are actually any studies that support this, unfortunately. War simply isn't a consequence of gender, it is a consequence of ideology and fear.

One anecdote

Another anecdote

Now we're talking percentages, which is better. But you'd still need something better than your recollections (and probably something more specific than "huge").
Obviously, there are plenty of mixed-race relationships, and plenty of them are happy. But there is research that seems to indicate that there is something to what the parent comment was suggesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpersonal_attraction#Simila...
