IETF adoption is a red herring. The IETF does not matter. What matters is market uptake. Reputable providers will need to offer the protocol as a service, and popular client software will need to integrate it into their applications.

#35I'm really interested in their solution for solving metadata leakage. I just looked over the SCIMP white paper, and it didn't mention anything about metadata.
It appears they will use XMPP which offers encryption.. so the metadata that appears is encrypted XMPP messages being transmitted between servers to notify users about new messages.
Then you'll see the (encrypted) access to the cloud storage.

They appear to be talking about this thing: https://silentcircle.com/web/scimp-protocol/ I thought we didn't want to use the NIST curves (like ECC-384?) anymore... seems something like Curve25519 might be better.

Bitmessage doesn't scale, it's POW doesn't solve any spam problems, and it's largely insecure. There's been quite a lot of public discussion about just how hilariously insecure it is.

IETF has become less relevant of late, they don't get stuff adopted and have been taken over largely by architecture astronauts.
