Forks are male?

Makes sense to me (native English speaker), albeit in a non-Euclidian kind of way. Apparently in Spanish and a few other languages they are too, though this seems to be a minority. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fork#Translations

in german it is: "Die Gabel" --> female

Exactly. It's just a reference to an unfortunate series of events that won't be worth explaining in a month. Make it 'Fork My Repo' and I'm a buyer.

As a woman I'd probably be afraid to wear a "Fork my Repo" shirt. I think you can guess why. Just some food for thought...

Why? (not why as "I don't see anything wrong" but why as "I really don't know, please explain")

Forks and dongles are both male, so this is a retarded way to "support women in tech" "Finger my ports" would be far more appropriate.

I have a mentally handicapped son and your use of the word retarded offends me. Pick another word? (And by the way, I do agree with your premise).

Considering that 'retard' means slow, 'retarded way' doesn't really make any sense.

Labelling one "Women's" and the other "Men's" is incredibly sexist, stereotypic, demeaning, and body-dismorphic.

I couldn't agree more, the only thing that would make me rage even further was if the girls shirt was pink and the boys shirt was blue.

or if the men's sizes were bigger than the woman's sizes. how extremely sexist to not offer the same sized shirt for both sexes. disregard biology we want equality at all costs.

Fork my repo and leave my dongle alone?

"Don't Touch My Dongle?"

Being offended is your problem, not his.

Have we learned nothing in the last 24 hours?!

Hi georgeorwell. I just went through your one comment above. You just told somebody who complained of getting death threats because of his comments here to watch how he comments so "his life might get a bit easier?" I can't imagine anything more cowardly that you could have possibly posted.

I'm not sure why it's cowardly to suggest that. Could you elaborate? I thought it was good advice. If inflammatory comments are even possibly leading to death threats (and it seemed to me like they might be), it's probably a good idea to not post inflammatory comments. I mean, surely nobody wants to receive death threats. Are you saying that his/her comments are not inflammatory? My standard for cowardly posting is v…

That's 'victim blaming' and fairly inflammatory. That's not your intent. It's no different then telling women not to wear provocative clothing if they don't want to be raped (And before people suggest it, I'm not equating rape to anything here).

Basically, your intent is sound (how not to receive death threats), but your approach is insulting. The result is, the persons you are talking to are more likely to dismiss what you say because, in effect, you are blaming them for the death threats.

You seem to actually care about helping. I wish I could offer some direct advice about how to approach this different, but I can't think of any at the moment. I just know that this approach is confrontational, and completely in the opposite direction of which you seem to want to go.

Don’t handicapped and retarded me pretty much the same thing? Why does one offend and you use the other freely?
