Great link, but it also says this: "Even in countries that have no law of privacy, there is a moral obligation on us not to upload photographs which infringe the subject's reasonable expectation of privacy." It was immoral of her to publish that photo, but not illegal.

Although the conference was open to anyone who paid admission, the conference was certainly not a public place.

i think that you HAVE TO go to your job and explain your situation, This was not a case of harrassment Adria, i dont know if you intended for this man to get fired. you need to make this right and get this mans job back. The job is gone, but he definitely needs to retain an attorney. I certainly would, and I would proceed until there was a satisfactory settlement.

I'm sorry to hear your employer deciding to not to work with you on this and I hope they reconsider, bring you back on and dealing with it constructively. For context, I'm a developer evangelist. What you did was pretty fucking retarded. You took a joke way out of proportion; then instead of telling the guy off- you took a picture of the guy and post it on twitter for the whole planet to see. Firing the guy and having his three kids go fucking hungry. Forget the guy here for a moment. YOU'VE JUST FUCKED OVER THREE KIDS OVER A DAMN JOKE. For "feminism"? What the fucking hell is wrong with you!? You're the reason why it's considered a joke in the western world. You have power, so do many other women. Hell, if you want to see female oppression, look at the middle east. Look in a number of third world countries. In the states a single accusation, not convicted or charged- ACCUSATION of rape will land a guy in prison. You have power, and I've seen others abuse that to their own ends to the point to where it became an issue that's stands here today. Of real rapists getting away and the innocent behind bars with their lives ruined.

You're almost as bad as them... as you reinforce stereotypes and set bad examples for the rest of us that are fighting for real equality. My only advice to you is to grow thicker skin, you're not a delicate flower- you're a fucking human being that should be able to handle a seemingly 'uncomfortable' situation without generating drama like a fucking 14 year old in high school.

How many terrible jokes have been made along the lines of "I'd like to put my hard drive in her RAM slot".

Jokes like that were old and corny 20 years ago.

HINT: though it uses the terms "hard drive" and "RAM slot", as used, they don't actually refer to a hard drive or a RAM slot.

It's entirely reasonable to know what forking and dongles mean in the normal sense, yet to hear comments about "forking" and "big dongles" and understand they're not being used to refer to the usual things.

Hey everyone - before commenting, please notice how many people have already commented with essentially your opinion. No need to pile on.

What we have here is a cascade of overreaction. HN and other communities are overreacting too. Think how much better it'd have been if, for example, PlayHaven had waited a day or two to think through this (assuming we've already got the story right, which is unlikely). That applies to you too. Let's just take it easy for the time being. Probably by tomorrow we'll have a clearer view of the facts.

Don't try to hurt someone on the internet, especially when others are doing the same.

For rapes outside of prison, yes. Rapes inside of prison are almost all male on male, and there is evidence suggesting that the numbers of such are comparable to and may exceed rapes outside of prison. So it is not impossible that the majority of rape victims in the USA are men.

True, however, the vast majority of rapes of women are by men, and the vast majority of rapes of men are by men.

It's not like the issue of men being raped is predominantly due to women, whereas the issue of women being raped is predominantly due to men.

I also wonder if all the 'alpha male' bullshit might actually be a detrimental influence on prison rape, since it so clearly reinforces and mimics the sort of hierarchy that exists among men in prisons.
