It's actually going to raise questions as to why the EU are A-OK with this now when a possible interpretation of associate membership is it's what Cameron was trying to negotiate the UK into when complete inflexibility on the EU side triggered the Brexit referendum. All depends on what an associate member is of course.

You are assigning too much responsibility to the EU here and none to the other actors responsible for Brexit. It borders on propaganda, but I do not want to assume ill intent.

And Cameron, didnt he say he would guide UK no matter the result and then resigned when Brexit won?

44% of Canadians support re-opening immigration; I'm willing to bet that a larger number would support immigration from EU nations.

Not comparable at all. The US is one market unless you have a compelling reason to protect your state market. Canada is 10 separate markets with provincial agreements between them - all protecting themselves. Easiest example is Quebec.

I.e. Opt in vs Opt out but more complicated.

Middle eastern or North African countries can’t join because the member states don’t want them to join and they need unanimous agreement. See Turkeys failed bid for example. Even a country with positive general public appeal like Ukraine is very unlikely to join in the next 10 years

Do Canadians think "Yanks" is some sort of insult? I guess it's the white version of saying Gringo. Canada's economy is propped up by Alberta's energy production, which you my loose because they're so disgusted with the liberal politics. Anyway, good luck with revitalizing the economy by trading with a bloc of countries in economic decline.

Canadians are not using that as a real insult, no. “Child fucker” is an insult that is often used, however the USA does not consider that an insult.
