Isn't it being revamped a big feature of iOS 27 ?
Yes and that’s my point. I don’t care about any ui or features change - I want the very basic functionality to work and it currently doesn’t.

#852People who are still on Chrome as main browser should seriously try Safari 27. Compatibility greatly improved, super speedy. Although for some reason the AI organise tab option is not showing up on me.
Still waiting for them to allow me to use any search provider I want (e.g. Kagi).

#853I’m really disappointed that Apple removed the one-toggle option to turn off Apple Intelligence / Siri AI features in the last beta. Writing tools magically reappearing after I had it off is not a great experience.

What doesn't work ?
I expect the following from such a system : I set a time limit per app/set of apps, and the phone locks said apps once the limit is reached. In theory, this is what it does, in practice it almost never works : it doesn’t lock, gets broken whenever you upgrade the os, gets broken whenever your child upgrades the os, can be trivially bypassed by a kid, cannot be unlocked when you want it to unlock remotely etc I’ve also seen trivially bad data ( phone usage when it was in my pocket ). It’s worth noting you also need an Idevice to set it remotely - if your significant other has an android device he or she is out of luck.
I was very surprised at how appallingly bad it was - just try it for a few weeks and you’ll immediately notice it’s badly broken but somehow doesn’t fix it.
Contrast this to google’s system which, well, works.
Edit : it’s so mind bogglingly bad that I’m genuinely curious to talk to someone who works at apple about this.

#855I do NOT understand the bullishness on Siri. I've been running the dev builds for month. The thing I hear the most often is, "I'm sorry. Something went wrong."
I've been using it since the second dev beta and it's been working great. If you're seeing that most people are happy with it then it sounds like you're in the minority.

#856This is going to sound like a really weird and irrelevant nitpick, but I dislike how they changed the version numbers to be year+1. I like that they all unified and have a relationship to the current year, but we're not buying cars. We're getting operating systems and not being confused about chronology is pretty important for bug tracking or other minutiae. Plus, the Mac lineup use(d) the year of release. Why move a…

Oh! How's the text rendering now? In macOS 26 I had to return a new ultrawide because macOS hates non-retina displays and text was blurry af. Worth trying now?
I got a MacBook a few weeks ago, first Apple computer I have ever owned. I was so surprised when I plugged my 4K monitor into it, there didn't seem to be a way to run it at native resolution and all the text was aliased.
Re: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
#858I've been using it for several months since the developer beta came out; overall I'm extremely positive on it. One of their better releases that seemingly focused more on quality and refinements than new-features. Siri is definitely worth using now, even if it remains still a work-in-progress/needs continued refinement. It can surprise you in good ways, but it isn't consistently good yet. The keyboard remains unfixed…
> Siri is definitely worth using now Just tried it this morning after my shower: - Siri, what's the weather like? - I don't know where you are - ... use the the geolocation?? - You need to unlock first So yeah, still unusable to me even for the most basic shit

I'm thinking of gaming as in Steam, including indies, AA and AAA. Of course Apple is doing perfectly fine for mobile gaming, and is giving more than enough tools to developers to implement mobile games perfectly well.
I am talking about PC gaming, and more specifically modern DXVK/Wine support. There's no need for ports, as the Steam Deck showed. Apple Silicon GPUs are all capable of supporting Vulkan 1.3 and translating DirectX code. Proton 11 supports ARM/FEX natively, which would make Apple Silicon a first-class citizen if you use Asahi drivers. macOS users will be stuck with Game Porting Toolkit and it's lackluster support; iP…
It is not just a translation layer, as much as a great effort of the open source community to force-port every game in existence to Linux. The effort also includes stuff like ntsync that gives the Linux kernel Windows-y APIs for performance.
I doubt Apple has any interest in any of that. I don't really blame them.
And purely in principle, why are we all going through so much effort to save game devs from writing good OS-independent arch-independent code?

100% not sarcastic. I disabled all continuity options and the annoying delay to bring up the context menu is gone. My phone is my only apple product. I don't need it.
Where is that setting ? Can only find continuity related to AirPlay Edit: Disabled everything on "Continuity and AirPlay" as well. Guessing it might be the "Handoff" setting. Not sure that the menu pops up any faster though
