It would depend on the sales volume. For a long time the iPad has been available and many developers simply are content to have a stretched version of their iPhone app on their iPad, because the sales volume isn’t sufficient. If foldable phones sell like iPads, this could very well happen to them too.

The rumours say 10 million iPhone Duo are being made, there are hundreds of millions of iPads so the numbers might not sway any opinions for a while.

I think they need to aggressively court developers, just give a buttload of advertising credit to nice apps that predate AI slop if they add compatibility, what does it cost Apple to "give" you $10k or $20k credit in their own ad system...

But the rumours also say they are going to squeeze the App Store for higher margins so maybe it is too late.

Personally I think it looks both incredibly ugly and also really non ergonomic. I can’t see it being comfortable to hold and type on at all. I predict the form factor will be gone within two years.

I have a few qualms with this phone:

For an Android user, you can already build such a system yourself quite trivially by getting two phones, attaching them with a small hinge or case, and using an app to synchronise content between the displays. From a laptop or tablet, the same applications and files could be accessed through existing cloud services

After watching some reviews of the Duo, I'm convinced that Steve Jobs would have never let the inner panel be matte while the outer panel was glossy. It's too inconsistent and inelegant.

While 4x3 is great (for 1998) and I do run server windows in 1280x1024, all the widescreen media is gonna look terribad.

Are we going back to 'modified to fit your screen' days?
