I think this is another VR moment for Meta. It wasn't necessarily a terrible idea to invest in VR - I mean it was but let's suspend disbelief for a moment - but Meta is not the company that would succeed in that market. Meta is not a hardware company, not really, and is not an "experiences" company. VR would have had to rely on a lot of premium content, and either you have a company like Disney controlling their own ecosystem or who do you think Disney is going to work with, Meta or Apple?

I tried to explain to my Meta colleagues with the virtual reality push was absolutely doomed to fail no matter how good the hardware was and this is the same. Nobody is going to look at Meta for a personal assistant, the world has caught on and besides nobody things about Facebook as the place that is useful, that's Google.

What you think is "terribly Ineffcient" can be also considered "perfectly acceptable and resilient to systemic shocks". Hyperfixation on efficiency gains is a disease of modern society.

Copy pasting ai code from the browser is not perfectly acceptable. The only reason to do it is because you haven’t tried agents. It shows a lack of imagination and a willingness to settle for inferiority.

having used it for a bit, yes, one of the first things it asked me for, unprompted, were things to set it up to buy stuff. i declined but it still consistently wants to spend money; research a trip? as soon as it has any results it prompts to start booking stuff. etc.

Meta certainly do give the impression that they are burning through ridiculous amounts of cash with not much to show for it, and thats just from the outside.

Yeah, I was surprised to see they just gave DHH a $1.5m credit. Can't imagine they'll have good ROI on that (although what do I know)
