It's pretty clear that you have an extremely limited exposure to the custom Android development space, since you never rebutted any of the points I brought up. Custom android was never easy and never will be. And it's fundamentally incompatible with the concept of having a truly secure env on your device (same as in the PC space, ironically enough).
Your custom rom experience sits wholly within a larger category of computer systems experience about which I've been speaking.
The sort of fragmentation you describe is a symptom, not a foregone conclusion.

Very little if anything at all. Depends a bit how you draw the line between an app and the base OS. Contactless payments dont work with Google Pay - but that is due to Google using attestatiom to check if the OS is GMS lincesed (GrapheneOS is not). There are alternative contactless payment options that work fine.

There's quite a list you can get even from GrapheneOS's posts - among other things, there's a rather large set of apps that will outright crash when MTE is enabled.

Where on earth do you get this misconception? Custom Android != has root. If you don't think Graphene is reasonably secure, explain how?
