Why do people feel the need to go to X so strongly? What am I missing? I don't use nitter or X
More broadly, it’s a platform where prominent people say noteworthy things. I don’t think it’s surprising people want to read it.

So X(.ai) can scrape the entire web, but nobody can scrape X. Makes sense.
It's getting to the point where his private security are harassing people for walking down the street in their own neighborhood that runs alongside one of his "compounds."

I think it’s just literally anyone who sees your post and also has eyes.
- Mamdani, who in contrast to Musk does mingle quite a lot in anti-Semite cirles
- Bernie Sanders, a Jew himself but that has never kept anyone from being called a nazi
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also often seen in anti-Semite circles
- Kamala Harris
- Elizabeth Warren, who later also supported nazi-tattoo candidate Graham Platner whom she called 'my type of man'
- Hillary Clinton
- ...and many others
Of course the legacy press has excuses for all these nazi-saluting individuals except for Musk, calling these photo's 'coincidental' or 'taken out of context'. The truth is that none of these individuals, Musk included, made nazi salutes but that is not what the narrative pushes and with that unfortunately also not what this here site - HN - accepts.

There are instances full of actual Nazis on Mastodon - that we can choose to refuse to interact with those instances (yes, I've blocked a nazi instance on my instance) does not prevent them from talking amongst themselves or to people who want to talk to them. Censorship is not refusing to listen to people we find abusive. People are not entitled to force me to listen. A federated platform is far more resistant to ce…
How is it not censorship if you are making the decision for not only yourself, but others, too? It sounds like saying bleeping swear words on TV isn't censorship because you just don't want to hear bad language.
Nobody is forced to join a Mastodon instance that censors Nazis - there are many that don't, or you can run your own.

Total defeat of Elon "I have too much money" Musk. Now we need an alternative that works well and is de-centralized from the get go.
Somebody needs to figure out how to move millions of people from one platform to other. Otherwise we will never get better platforms and our current techlords will keep getting richer.
That’s why I think atproto is cool. It’s the only thing I’m aware of that provides for actually forking a public social network.

There's always the big bad scary word, "decentralization". But of course, even among HNers, there's amazing cognitive dissonance among "decentralization is hard and takes effort" and "omg, of course the next centralized platform won't be bought by an insecure dictator-wannabe". I'm not that old, it's played out over and over. I shouldn't even comment here. Decentralization or bust.
I really enjoy the "federated platforms are too difficult to use" voices on HN. Quite the hackers these guys!
