Why is spotify so popular? There are different solutions to listen to music. What does spotify do that almost no one else does? Is it the music library or something else? I use youtube music, but I am looking for alternatives (but not spotify for various reasons).

I really like qobuz for music, great apps for iOS, Android, and web.

Regarding Bandcamp, I find following small labels to be a great way to find new music. Small labels tend to release music of similar style and quality. They often also have deals on bandcamp where you can buy an entire label's discography for crazy cheap, like a hundred or so albums for $50!

Nitpicking but those devices do not "benefit lossless by default" after Spotify started offering it. I was very disapointed that my Yamaha network receiver didn't get an update to support lossless from Spotify Connect.

I pay for Deezer but I've never used the app. I download the music I want in FLAC using deemix.

Hey, don't spoil the party. I knew that. Many others also.

Now the dzr developers will break the functionality. On purpose.

I used to use Tidal, until they patched something, and now FLAC is impossible to obtain from Tidal. Hopefully it still works tomorrow, sheesh.

In my case, some music I want is unavailable, some releases from Discos Fuentes of Salsa Brava from the 1970s.

But, in this case, they are also unavailable from Tidal, Spotify, etc...

I switched from Spotify to Amazon Music about 9 months ago, and cancelled Spotify Premium as a result (due to price, not bugs). Amazon Music is so much worse. 1. If you have no connectivity, the app will frequently get stuck in the offline state, playing the spinner indefinitely, even after connectivity has returned. I mean, Amazon just sucks in general when it comes to design. I don't understand why Amazon videos (or whatever their purchased streaming app is) doesn't even queue up sequential movies automatically. It'll play the first Harry Potter movie, then skip to the third, fourth, and then the second, etc. It's not just HP , either.

I like Joe Rogan. So not yuck for me. But I can understand how if someone you hate is pushed hard by a platform you’d want to leave it.

Agreed. I like Joe Rogan but hate Spotify. For that time period where Rogan was a Spotify exclusive, I didn't listen to his podcast at all.

Not helpful for Linux users, but FYI both the Windows and Mac Apple Music clients are native apps.
