How would one hold Google accountable? By fining them $1bn? $10bn? $100bn? To them it is just the cost of doing business. We're beyond holding huge companies accountable. The only way they could be held accountable is if there was personal risk involved for the CEOs. There isn't.

At this point, breaking them up into smaller companies. Then start fining the individual companies so the balance sheets feel the fine more. Increase the fines exponentially for each violation.

What is the likelihood of that happening? Realistically? Does anyone think government can, or even wants to, break up large companies? The large companies _own_ the politicians.

Why would it not be, "Since Google is an advertising company, it stands to reason they want to squash the open web and make it a platform for them to serve advertisement and increase their margin"?

Alphabet needs to be broken up. Chrome, Search, Android, Youtube need to be separate companies. It's not the only company that needs this treatment.

Why would you need to keep Europe safe? It's not your colony, I'd much rather prefer if China wanted to keep us safe, by their track record over last 50 years seems like much more peaceful country than US, I don't see them invading other countries, kidnapping presidents, bombing schools full of kids or otherwise kill civillians outside China.

So what Europe need is strong economy to counter US and keep us safe from them, the most dangerous country for world peace together with Israel.

Sadly for EU they will keep shooting themselves in one leg with RU sanctions and shooting themselves to other leg with Green Deal nonsense, so you don't really need strong economy to be better than EU, just a bit of common sense.

This summer when visiting father I noticed he is using Firefox with uBO as his default browser on desktop, it made much easier to switch from Chrome to Firefox also on his phone since there was not Google sync across browsers argument present, but I can imagine this can make switching for people invested too much into Google account troublesome, since 3rd party Chromium browsers don't support Google Sync, neither does Firefox, though they could just switch to Firefox on both and use Firefox Sync.

Personally I am fine with having desktop (Vivaldi) and phone (Firefox) completely separated without sync (not using Google account in any of them, using only dummy account in Android TV for Smarttube and play store (I'd like to thank Google for disabling X-plore file manager, which is not possible to reenable, but anyway I switched to Cx file explorer which lets me to connect over FTP, which is all I need to manage ATV)), it's just not that easy to sync passwords, bookmarks and other settings when switching to other phone once in a few years.

Ok cool, but I think some other people might be using some other OS than macOS, but don't quote me on that. Not sure why "Always use the default browser your OS developer has packaged for you" applies just because Safari happens to work well (only?) on macOS.

It's not just elderly parents. I've sat in on many an incident where skilled people in accounts or HR similarly saw and ad and thought "I have to do this thing", leading to compromise.

The under 30 crowd is also dangerously tech illiterate. They hardly know how anything functions. They just use apps. If it doesn't have a simple app they won't bother. Just nope out.
