I use Cursor at work and love it. It's a great IDE, the best IMHO. But it becomes really expensive.

Since the introduction of the Cursor Token Rate, my company tells us to use Claude and Codex directly with Anthropic (or Vertex AI) and OpenAI, respectively.

I'm now using Grok 4.6 most of the time. Sonnet some times. But that's it. Cursor-native models 99% of the time. I'm pretty sure Anthropic will follow OpenAI soon in pulling their models out of Cursor because it's now a true competitor.

I am also weirdly unmotivated by opportunities to spend money, which is both how I got this passive income and lack of rent, and why it's borderline enough for me. FIRE is very easy when all your working life, you only spend rent+50%, the rest of your paycheque going to savings and investments; but most people can't do this.

Companies that didn't give away all their content for free to anyone have actually denied AI companies from training on all their data without paying a fee. Reddit, Associated Press, etc. For those who chose to give it all away, the ship has sailed, but they did choose to give it away for free to anyone so they can't complain that they succeeded.

How exactly other websites “gave it all away”? Also examples you list are websites putting some explicit rule eg in their robots.txt or filtering web crawlers. This is all a reaction to existing situation, so Reddit for sure has been scrapped before Reddit realised what was happening.

Claude / Codex ex tensions inside of VSCode give you what you described. I ageee, I find people that use only the CLI barely read and review the code the agent creates until it's too late

Yes, any Cursor sub includes a separate tier of usage for Cursor/SpaceX first party models separate from usage of third party models. I have a $20 Cursor sub still personally and would say that the usage for Grok models is much higher than what $20 gets you with Anthropic. I can't speak for the $100 plan but I would assume it scales similarly. I rarely run out of my usage monthly even with the $20 plan.

I'm on the $20 plan too and the only time I run over is if I'm using Opus (or probably other third-party models). Grok and Composer seem nearly free at this point. Cursor also gave me a $100 credit for Grok after 81% of my usage was on TP models. I don't think Grok 4.6 is quite at the level of Opus 5, but it's close and so much faster (and less chatty).

It's ironic how AI companies are re-inventing their own form of privately enforced copyright, lobby the government to ban foreign competitors that don't respect it etc., all while spending the last 5 years fighting tooth and nail against the copyright of the training material they're using. If you can take any book and turn it into a model, because it's "transformative enough", and "AI learns just like a person does"…

Contracts are not a "reinvented" form of copyright. This isn't even uncommon.
