Based on the publicly available evidence I would consider it to potentially be genocide, certainly it's more plausible than the accusations against Israel since China isn't at war with the Uyghurs from my understanding. One, China is also committing genocide.

Two, the intent is clearly genocide. Listen to Ben-Gvir.

Not if the US backs out or otherwise changes its stance

If the US backs out the hard liners gain even more control, ally with china, and begin their final solution to the palestinian problem. Israelis would go north korea before a one state solution.

That's the thing though, no other world power would sign up for this kind of relationship with Israel. We're giving them protection and paying them for it too. There's a reason Russia and China don't go head to head with us over the Mid East, but Russia will do it in Ukraine.

Did I say all, anywhere in my post? What in my post suggests that the left or the right is a monoculture?

You failed to cover an important fracture in the Republican party. That there are some big names getting involved with ending the genocide without being anti semitic.

The only assertion I made about the right is that the proportion of antisemitism is higher. There are absolutely people on the right who are altruistic. Just like there are people on the left who are antisemitic.

Nations and organizations with known old pre-existing political/religious animosity towards Israel do not count as valid opinions on the matter.

Don't we typically call that ad hominem? And secondly, is your claim that every single one of these hundreds of large orgs are historically politically or religiously anti Israel? I get that of course Iran is not a valid opinion, but all the rest? That stretches credulity.

> Don't we typically call that ad hominem?

I think we'd typically call that bias.

> And secondly, is your claim that every single one of these hundreds of large orgs are historically politically or religiously anti Israel?

Plenty of those organizations/countries do have historical problems when it comes to antisemitism which is obviously highly correlated with an anti-Israel bias. Which of these organizations/countries don't have a history of either blatant anti-Israel bias(i.e. clear double standards) and/or outright antisemitism?

Saying Ben-Gvir has genocidal intent(which I'd probably largely agree with) is not remotely the same as saying Israel has genocidal intent. The power dynamics in Israel are much more complicated and one should not conflate things said by the most extreme ministers as actual policy.

Itamar Ben-Gvir, just recently, stated that he wants to kill 30-40 Palestinians every night. He said so, publicly. So it is hilarious that Israel is trying to influence chatbots when shit like that is out in the open.

And he is a minister in Israel's government, not some rando. Israeli governments and actions in the last many years are simply indefensible.

Not just “a minister”, but the Minister of National Security. I mean, yeah, the “you can’t judge the intent of Israel’s security policy by Ben-Gvir” would maybe hold some water if he was, say, Minister of Tourism (though if a Tourism minister was telegraphing genocidal intent that wasn’t that of the government, you still wouldn't expect them to stay around long, either) but...

Warsaw Ghetto was sealed off in November 1940 by a wall more than 10 feet high, with barbed wire and guarded gates. German authorities specifically used the guards to prevent movement between the ghetto and the rest of Warsaw. Sounds familiar - as I said, history rhymes.

I'm pretty sure French guards didn't prevent movement between Germany and the rest of France.

> No one is comflating war with genocide Anyone claiming Israel is committing genocide is quite obviously conflating the two.

Israel has openly , multiple times over decades, stated policy objectives that meet the purpose definition of genocide, and committed every single act enumerated in the Genocide Convention as constituting Genocide when committed with a genocidal goal in pursuit of those objectives as if they were using the defintion as a checklist. That there were wars going on at the time does not make it any less of a genocide.

> That there were wars going on at the time does not make it any less of a genocide.

If some act is in pursuit of a legitimate war goal then that typically negates it being considered an act of genocide from my understanding of international law.

> we realized it was time to return to our own country The problem is that it was someone else's country. "Returning" after 2000 years and telling the people who have lived there for centuries that you rightfully own the place is insane. No one anywhere on earth would accept that.

Jews have had a continuous presence in Israel for 3,500 years. Many more returned home after the Holocaust and rebuilt cities, created new ones like Tel Aviv, turned sand into productive land.

By "continuous presence," you mean that a tiny number of Jews lived there. The vast majority of Jews lived elsewhere, and the vast majority of the local population was not Jewish.

I'm sorry, but 5% of the population of Palestine being Jewish does not give one the right to take over the country, not to mention the fact that the longstanding Jewish population of Palestine was hostile to Zionism. It was a European political movement.

> european zionist invaders I never thought I'd see this kind of blatant anti-semitism on HN. Jews in Europe were persecuted for hundreds of years as foreign invaders told to go back to their homeland. Immediately after the Holocaust, we realized it was time to return to our own country; we could not rely on the kindness of European nations. And now that we have returned, we're labelled invaders of our own nation, ou…
