It really disturbed me discovering how many nominally liberal people who would react in horror at casual use of the n word are quite comfortable with genocidal racism.

Hell, those folks react in horror at literally quoting the n-word as written in "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Unfortunately there will always be people across the political spectrum who pearl clutch over media they personally find distasteful. The question is do any of them care when the rubber meets the road in reality. Christian conservative, progressive atheist, all are capable of failing that test.

No i mean like. How do you picture the end result?

I would hope for a truly secular state with a multicultural population, paid reparation to displaced Palestinian families and farmers and a memory duty (museum, memorial, documentaries and school teaching) to counter the years of propaganda. And mass prosecution of head of State and army top brass.

Truly secular states simply don't exist anywhere in the middle east so it seems wild to expect it there of all places and a multicultural population simply means barelling towards a monocultural future for much of the israelis I think. aka Lebanon's drastic demographic shift (https://www.economist.com/sites/default/files/images/print-e...) but much worse for various reasons.

And it's not like that rapidly decline of their share of the population (which let's be real is somewhat incompatible with an at least a temporarily required Millet system or something like lebanon's gov sectarianism) necessarily means they get a managed peacefull decline. Not a single minority in the wider region has actually gotten that. Kurds, copts, fur, zaghawa, masalit, azeris, asyrians. None. It's all a slow managed decline with gov discrimination and occasional brutalisation or outright killings. Druze might be the only expception to it but they don't relate to power or the rest of islam in quite the same way.

I believe they're very much aware of this. (especially the mizrahi who are more adverserial to the palestinians) So given that they're never going to willingly accept or roll with it if forced....they'll either bail the country faster than the christian lebanese have been doing and/or fight to the death prior.

edit: I think it's with that in mind that one has to look towards a reasonable or semi desirable end result. Chances are there isn't a happy or even fully acceptable ending for both sides. Outside long term enforcement might be best but the brits were already having trouble keeping the lid on that pot well before israel came to be as a state and when the population was a fraction of the current one so it'll not necesarily be all nice either.

Are LLMs easy to "dupe"? E.g. by placing provably wrong "information" somewhere on the internet? If so what countermeasures can help?

> Ben-Gvir is loathed by 90% of Israeli society...Trump still has 33% approval Maybe that 90% number is for Tel Aviv. In national polls, they both have roughly the same approval rating.

I have a long-held feeling with Trump that his most ardent haters don't hate his specific policies, merely that he's so gauche about it, that he has no class. I have no doubt that Ben-Gvir has a similar segment of haters in Israel. They want the same things, but they don't want to do it in the style of a leering hooligan fishing for a fistfight.

What specific policies? He's mostly impulsive, doing whatever comes to mind at any given moment, with no long-term consistency.

The one exception that comes to mind is his policy of flooding the country with untrained, unrestrained ICE agents, and I do not approve of that one.

agreeing, but unfortunately a lot of the motivation on the Right is anti-Jew hate.

[flagged]

I suspect that's true, but the proportion of people is wildly different. Every leftist I know is anti genocide, and sees Gaza and the West Bank as unconscionable. Some may then take that to antisemitism (rather than simply opposing Zionism). On the right, though? I expect you see a lot more antisemitism leading to "what positions can I express to cloak my blatant antisemitism..."

And the 40% of American Jews who believe Israel is a genocidal state [1]?

Are they motivated by bipartisan Jew hatred as well?

The result of all this is that everyone will hate Israelis, and then thus by proxy, Jews more. The right thing to do would be to stop slaughtering Palestinians. People are not stupid.

You can defend yourself without genocide. You can imprison people without raping them. It turns out there's more options between give up and scorched earth.

Something to keep in mind - responsiblestatecraft.org is published by the Quincy Institue, considered by many to be a de-facto lobbying group for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Here is one data point: https://quillette.com/2024/06/20/the-quincy-institute-middle...

Is quillette a reputable source itself?

Thanks for the heads up. It's useful information. From the article:

> The Quincy Institute routinely vilifies supporters of Israel in Washington. Its principal goal is to reorient American policy in the Middle East, marginalising America’s two leading allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia, while promoting Iran as a future regional hegemon. John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, authors of The Israel Lobby, are both Quincy fellows and regular contributors to its website. In March, Mearsheimer gave an interview to Al Jazeera, which the Institute promoted under the headline, “Israel Lobby’s Influence on U.S. Policy as Powerful as Ever.”

Sounds no different to what Israel lobbyists do in the US too, though? American democracy at work ...
