It's just both (or more for the casual jogger than serious ultra runner for example). If you need a proper, dedicated sports device get a coros, garmin or suunto. Apple Watch is more leaning towards day to day, while these things are for sports and just for sports. But suck at day to day stuff if you want the fancy apple watch things. Pick your poison.

What metrics does garmin provide that the Apple Watch doesn’t

Mostly things like recovery time recommendations, body battery, training status, some scores, stuff like that.

Doesn't sound very "smart" to me.

Yea this sucks the moment you are shopping for anyone besides yourself. You can split up the items in the grocery store and be done way faster. Even alone, the person at home can add some last minute items.

Just use something self hosted like Mealie. I'll be shopping for what I want to make and then see something is on sale and can easily look up a recipe to add to the list as well.

It should at least notify you and give you the opportunity to cancel the alert within a few seconds

why do you want your watch to manage a grocery list? seriously

i find it very convenient being able to, at any point in the day whether my hands are messy or my phone or a piece of paper are far from me, simply raise my wrist and say "add greek yogurt to my grocery list"

maybe try your own memory, so you don't lose every scrap of data about yourself to the Book Goblins in the process.

It tried to, but a relatively new watch and not an easy button combo.
