> Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said in a statement posted on X that Americans deserve an energy system built on common sense and not one dependent on "costly subsidies". I agree. This is why we are building offshore wind and not subsidizing fossil fuels, right?

> not one dependent on "costly subsidies". While paying out 1.2 billion dollars.

> > not one dependent on "costly subsidies".

> While paying out 1.2 billion dollars.

for nothing. to literally replace some energy with no energy.

It’s kind of amazing and horrifying at the same time that a democratic country like the U.S. is doing all these shenanigans like blocking clean zero carbon energy, while a communist authoritarian country is massively moving towards clean energy. Based on what our media and our education system teaches us, one would have assumed that common sense and sound logic would prevail in a democracy, but rather what we see is…

> Meanwhile, we have totalitarian dictatorships (like the Emirates which has heavily moved toward zero carbon electricity sources like solar and nuclear) behaving far more logically, rationally, and soundly with a view towards the long-term rather than the short-term. The difference you’re spotting is the leaders of those nations have some remaining incentive to care about the wealth and wellbeing of the country they…

It's been a common saying for a long time that a benevolent dictatorship is the best form of government and a tyrannical dictatorship the worst. Democracy exists primarily to avoid the latter, not that it's better than the former.

Neither China nor the UAE can be said to have a purely benevolent dictatorship but it's not purely tyrannical either. So not surprisingly they're better than democracies in some aspects and worse in others.

Oh please. You wouldn’t survive in the regime 15seconds.

As an atheist I wouldn't survive in Texas for 15 seconds lol. I think I'll stick to my little Euro socialist country where politicians don't swear on a bible.

That's a funny thing to say about a place you've obviously not been for 15 seconds.

Also, you can swear on whatever you want here. It's the person's choice. You could swear on a copy of hitchiker's guide to the galaxy if you wanted.

Never attribute to stupidity what can be attributed to self-interest. It sure looks stupid when you look at America or the Roman Empire as a whole. But when you look at the specific individuals doing these "stupid" things, and the individuals enabling them, it is perfectly aligned with their own best interests.

It's almost as if acting solely in one's own self-interest is stupid.

It’s the lack of coherent leadership at the top, the lawyers, junk bond, equity bankers, oil-men, and the military have had their chance, it’s time for the engineers, science, medical, builders, local bankers and internal infrastructure people to run things. And when I say run things I mean, stop accepting their word as the truth.

You don't really have a choice here. As a "conservative" (what ever that means...) I got two different evils that I couldn't stand. I voted third party, but even that party wasn't very close to what I really believe.

The parties are not nearly symmetrical and if Harris with democrats are as evil to you ... then you are literally the problem. And you contributed to everything Trump does. I mean it. This both are same evil is either bullshit or completely wrapped non existent morality.

They are not the same evil. They are two very different evils and neither is acceptable.

The concerning part is that peak lead exposure was with Gen X. We're still being led by boomers and silent generation. So any contribution from lead stands to get worse before it gets better.

The younger generation is way less cognitively developed, to use a bland term. What we find find next, that lead was actually good?

> The younger generation is way less cognitively developed

Interesting premise, do you have a source to back it up?

Edit: or is this a creative way to say "younger" that sailed over my head on first read

Insane. Over the last year, wind - mostly offshore - has generated more than 35% of electricity here. Gas is down to 27%. It's really, really good. And it looks cool.

They know what they're doing. The next administration will give them 1.2bn to start deploying offshore wind. Money for nothing!

I suspect wind investment is going to take a decade to recover. Nobody wants to deal with a legal fight if they can avoid it. Offshore wind takes a lot of planning and engineering to deploy. These projects were halted midway, forcing the companies to eat a ton of costs while the construction was sitting idle.
