In the USA's defence, the system that put these gangsters in charge also gives it a shot at changing course in a couple of years.
Trump 1 was so bad, people showed up in droves to vote for anything else. That's how we ended up with a dimensia president. Biden was so bad, people showed up in droves to vote for anything else. That's how we ended up in a war with Iran. Trump 2 is so bad, people will show up in droves to vote for anything else. The downward spiral continues.

I never claimed lead does not cause damage, it does. I dispute it is the primary fault in bad politics, and I offered an alternative theory.
It's probably more than one thing but it would be shocking if the lead had no impact.

It's spelled lead, and it has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to cause brain damage. There is no safe level of lead exposure, it causes neurological damage at any level of exposure and it stays in your body permanently. You're wrong on every count and simply spreading disinformation. Please don't do that.

For onshore wind, probably wind. For offshore wind, not nearly as clear. The US still lacks a lot of the specialized vessels, ports and manufacturing capacity. Solar has bigger upstream dependence on Asian wafer/cell production.
> The US still lacks a lot of the specialized vessels, ports and manufacturing capacity. Maybe we should put the $1.2B into that sort of thing, then?

#476I read up recently on the history of the fall of the roman empire and it was fascinating how eerily similar it was to the current state of the US. Overwhelmed by corruption and wars they make stupider and stupider decisions on ever larger scales, ever more frequently. And the population grows ever more cynical, eventually opting for authoritarianism before eventually the center can't hold any more and it all collapse…
Never attribute to stupidity what can be attributed to self-interest. It sure looks stupid when you look at America or the Roman Empire as a whole. But when you look at the specific individuals doing these "stupid" things, and the individuals enabling them, it is perfectly aligned with their own best interests.

What "world order" is this? One where cheap energy generation is seen as a good thing? Bizarre that anyone would be against a private company building solar or wind farms in this day and age. For a guy in the ai and cybersecurity industry you seem to have incredibly poor judgement Gyan.

But US seems to be doing a bit of everything no? But of course it doesn't have the same incentives of China.
You are commenting on an article in which the US is deciding (and paying immense costs) in order not to do everything. The current administration is actively trying to squash several proven-valuable ways of converting non-renewable resources into renewable ones.
In any case, you can't expect stable policies in a country with a winner-takes-all democracy.

I think wind farms on sea look really cool, especially if the turbines are huge. It gives some majestic feelings
I'm not a huge fan of their aesthetic in its own right, but it beats the aesthetic of fossil fuel infrastructure any day in my view.

#480I wish I had not read this. I am not kidding when I say this is ruining my day thinking about. One thing is they ruin our times. But they are in the game of ruining the rest of time for humankind, too.
More and more it seems like we're trying to do a speed run of killing our planet (or rather a planet worth living on).
But a very lovely species of bug may at some point look down and marvel at the beautiful new world they've conquered. And I guess we've collectively decided we're happy to give them that.
