I love hearing statements like this. I want to learn how to import into Unreal Engine... also throw a rocket launcher in there with some destruction physics. Start with a parametric program like solid works

Revit is parametric, but something like Rhino (going off reputation, never used it myself) gives you more free-form modeling control.

It’s like starting with a pencil sketch instead of going straight to SolidWorks, once you start building that more nailed down drawing with its explicit flow of sketches and operations in relationship to each other, it becomes much harder to make large structural changes.

You’re missing the difference between a feature and an application of that feature.

10 years ago I was doing walk-throughs of a 10 year old Sketchup model I made of my home -- using Oculus Rift. There's nothing special here.

Awnings are your friend, particularly on windows facing the equator. It's not very difficult to calculate all the ways sun will hit a window throughout the year and design an awning to block the sun in the summer but not the winter.

Reducing?

Virtual visit, get feel for house layout, get walls moved on the plans before building, less walls to be moved after building.

This is so awesome. I wish more realistic problems get solved like this instead of every new gadget getting shoehorned for gaming or porn.

Like many others, I said I’d quit Reddit when they killed Apollo. I was skeptical that I’d actually follow through, but it didn’t end up being a sacrifice at all. The official app sucks so hard it isn’t fun to browse, and now that the mobile site forces you to download the app, I don’t even look at posts from search results much anymore.

My use of Reddit also drastically reduced after Apollo stopped working (I didn’t follow the instructions that many others have been to sideload the app, configure with an API token, etc.).

But I found a couple of ways to browse without using the official app. One is Safari, with the free SinkIt for Reddit extension, and another is a free app called Lurker. The Lurker app is nowhere close to the speed and smoothness of Apollo. It also seems to drain the battery quicker, but the UI is relatively clean.

I use Reddit through Eddrit and Reddlib front ends. I never use the official Reddit front ends unless I land into them by mistake.

The most incredible tech on the planet is just a useless, Rube Goldberg machine without an application for the tech. VR has lots of uses, but it takes someone outside the field who wouldn’t have given it a go otherwise to see another use and go “hey guys, you can do THIS too!”

These apps already exist in VR. There's even a few of them on the Meta Quest line of headsets which are also standalone. The issue is that most people, who are older than Gen Alpha, flat out refuse to use VR for various reasons so they're not going to be aware of any of this. It's just dismissed.
