Creeping legitimization of murders and violent actions against people identifying as Russian? Nope I lived in Kharkiv for many years where many people identified as Russian. They felt perfectly safe in Ukraine until Russia invaded. They still feel perfectly safe living in Kyiv and Odessa —- except for Russian missiles of course. As for Merkel and Hollande — if you think the Minsk agreements or other agreements were i…

My distant roots came also from Khar'kov. As for legitimization of murders of Russian people, I remind you the Odessa pogrom and the "anti terrorist operation" (there was not "just" this). "Such twisted ligic.." Russia started the war with the main purpose to make the current Ukranian government fall, and to stop NATO from entering Ukraine. It did not succeed.

Regarding the Odessa incident— Any government will of course punish traitors. There is no government in the world that doesn’t punish people trying to revolt. The Russian government has killed and imprisoned lots of Russians for opposing the government for example. This Odessa incident is not a proof of anti-Russian hate, it’s a normal response of any government.

Now you agree that Russia started the war to topple Ukraine and and failed in its purpose. So we agree!

I should also add that I still read Dostoyevsky and respect Tolstoy and other high Russian culture. But killing Ukrainians? I don’t respect that. In fact I believe that if Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy were alive today they would oppose the Russian government of today just like they opposed the Russian government of their time. Both were nearly killed and imprisoned by their own government.

Kinda reminds one of the evolution of the air war during WWI. Planes were used as observation platforms to gather intelligence about enemy fortifications and activities. They were more mobile than balloons and could gather more timely information. Both sides flew past each other just doing their jobs until someone thought they could drop a grenade or small bomb as they surveilled the other guy. Then aerial bombing st…

The advantage of using a drone is that it is cheap to produce, but it needs to be really simple to stay cheap. Arming it with a machine gun that can target an airplane trying to shoot it down would be very expensive.

Not really. They are already in service.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=As_cifXH1Fs

I’m Ukrainian. I upvoted your comment because I want to show more people how this kind of thinking is mistaken. This kind of logic is very common in those who don’t support Ukraine: they think NATO is “using” Ukraine to fight Russia. They somehow forget that Ukrainians are willingly fighting to defend their own country — NATO can’t “use” a people who are unwilling to fight on their own. (Sure some of my friends have…

Russia adhered to the Minsk agreements as long as it could, it did not want to start this war. Both Merkel and Hollande, as far as I remember, admitted that the Minsk agreements were not made in good faith, and their purpose was only to give time to Ukraine to rearm. Russia started the war after it became clear that NATO was going to enter Ukraine, and after it was abundantly clear for years that the real purpose of…

Russia started the war after it became clear that NATO was going to enter Ukraine

First of all, the Minsk agreements did not state that Ukraine could not join NATO, this is Russian propaganda:

https://mythdetector.com/en/was-ukraine-refusing-to-join-nat...

Second, NATO was not "going to enter Ukraine". Ukraine wanted to join NATO. Ukraine is a sovereign country. If they want to join NATO, they can solicit membership. The rest of NATO can accept or refuse.

Though given that your account is new and mostly pro-Russian propaganda, you are probably just a Russian troll.

Because Russian's war with Ukraine is unsustainable, something has to change for Putin for him to remain in power, and one option is an escalation with NATO. Some other scenarios also explained in this good video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jDhYFSGkaAc

> one option is an escalation with NATO. Wouldn't this make the situation much worse for Russia, and therefore for him as well? The oligarchs will know who is to blame if Putin starts a war with NATO.

war with nato means he can more easily convince the russian public to go along with mobilization

russians arent excited to go die in ukraine, but defending the homeland from NATO is a different story

In September the Russians accused the Ukrainians of having repairing downed Geran drone airframes at the Lviv LORTA plant, transferring them to Yavoriv, and launching them unarmed into Poland. They presented various evidence like serial numbers, photographs of silver-tape repairs, claims that a Ukrainian SIM-card was used, lack of impact destruction, etc. What's true though? I don't believe that I have a way to find…

Russian credibility is at ~zero IMO. They've put forth so many insane theories related to this war that they started. And just on first principles, how stupid would the Ukrainian have to be to do such a thing to their biggest ally? It almost beggars belief.

Yes?

They would love to have a cause to involve anything NATO.

And for the first principles you are surely didn't miss: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cr7xzg3dmj8o

With the heatwaves and drought in Europe it's probably not the best time to have flaming wreckage falling from the sky.

Romanian here, living close to the border (~30km). There are no big forests nearby - we're safe. Some wheat fields might catch fire, but sometimes we do that intentionally anyway.

It's always amusing when one side claims what the presence of NATO personnel in UA is "just Russian lies" only to post the confirmation of it themselves. It's even more amusing when you see pictures like this https://i.redd.it/ex4jgoqir4qg1.png

The only loaded rhetoric is coming from you, I merely stated what the incentives are. Note that the situation is somewhat symmetric in that Russia also has an incentive to misdirect Ukrainian drones toward NATO airspace (which has happened).

> misdirect Ukrainian drones toward NATO airspace (which has happened). Claims to such effect has been made in public by reputable persons but they are not very credible nor has any supporting evidence been shown in public. Drones getting lost due to GNSS jamming is happening. But intentional misdirection towards a target would require GNSS spoofing capabilities over an impractically large area and that the drones wo…

I made no claims as to whether misdirection is happening or feasible, only that there are incentives for both sides to do so if it is, while there are no incentives for Russia to take on a much larger enemy while it can barely handle Ukraine, which OP was implying was the obvious explanation.

We (or at least not the insane part of) in NATO are using you, in the sense that it's easier for us to throw money at you fighting Russia than not, you losing, then us having to lose people. I don't know how I feel about that, on one hand, we are helping you defend, on the other we are just going "well, at least it's not our civilians and soldiers dying". But, either way, thank you!

I wouldn’t call it “using” I would call it “supporting” since most of us fight willingly. There is no way any army could hold back Russia for 5 years if we weren’t extremely determined and willing to fight.

I would call it using. Because we could've sent troops there, we just chose not to. You are obviously doing it for your own reasons, but we are just happy to see you get slaughtered, as long as our people don't get killed.

URL appears to go to home page of RO military, another URL is: https://www.france24.com/en/europe/20260726-romanian-jet-sho...

Nice to see a France24 link in the wild, it is a very underrated news outlet

Including on the dimensions of (1) having a very fast website and (2) not having any paywalls. Feels very good to read.
