This is false. Linux is better in every way, unless you are forced to use Windows at work or to use some Windows-software (whose developers thus make make the choice for you). But this also does not make Windows better.

Linux obeys the user, doesn't have malware in the repositories, fast and light even on older hardware and doesn't try extract as much money from you as possible.

Excellent hardware and software support (especially for Snapdragon/ARM64 CPUs and Microsoft Office) and best in class multitasking/window management are the top 2 reasons for me. Like someone else said, it's the worst OS, except for all the others :)

Buy preinstalled Linux, and you will not have to care about the hardware support. Worked for me. LibreOffice is better than MS Office for 90% of users.

Orbo's Oddysey (Unique 3D platformer)

UFO 50 (Retro/minigame compilation)

Ion Fury (Shooter)

Outer Wilds (Exploration/puzzle game)

Teardown (Voxel based destruction simulator with missions and multiplayer)

Spiritfarer (Tear jerker)

I guess my point is: There are so many good ass games around that there is no reason to play any of that big corpo AAA slop.

Living in China, in my experience there are more ads than anywhere else I have been. My TV’s homescreen is just ads, every app has constant ads after each action there is basically a popup. There are even more ‘grey area’ ads, my whole scooter and door is plastered with the same ad for borrowing money, just different color and number, but literally 40 around my front door. On the rolling shutters of stores there are…

Not to mention the crazy amount of spam calls and messages everyday :/

Tou probably agreed to this when you broke the seal on the box that contained the monitor and a copy of the agreement you just agreed to. If you think that’s bad, don’t ask what you agreed to by reading this comment. I miss the days when contracts required two-party consent, or at least “meeting of the minds” / negotiations.

There have been courts that have voided unreasonable EULAs, I believe. I suspect this can be fought too. But getting actual meaningful consequences for the manufacturers to make them stop doing this, may be a different matter.

As long as you don't need some Windows-only software, Linux is a viable alternative now. KDE Plasma is a great desktop environment and even most games run flawlessly on Steam. And if you do need Windows occasionally, you can put it into a VM.

Eh, kinda. I have new-ish MSI laptop with nvidia and it's still not good enough. I tried on the spare nvme and it just doesn't work well enough with these few games I want. Close but still not there. And Plasma has its own problems (I have it on my work laptop with Fedora).

You have to be very unlucky to find a laptop without Linux support these days. Nvidia’s support towards the Linux developers is better now, but still leaves much to be desired, and gaming, while Steam did an incredible job in making Linux better than Windows for most games, can’t really work miracles if the hardware manufacturer doesn’t care.

Oh. I looked it up. Not my cup of tea but it looks like 15 million people liked it.

Now the question is, will they resist the temptation for cancerous "growth" now that they made some money?

And the sad thing is, I would have never heard about it if not for this HN discussion. I simply do not check online only games because I expect IAP fests.

That’s what I mean though, at this point to get a clean windows experience it’s now a tinkering exercise in turning off hassles and spyware.

Rather than complaining to you that Firefox isn’t Linux, I’ll point out that Firefox is a great example.

LibreWolf was forked to deal with the exact situation you describe.
