You cannot look up "beep" in the manual when you have 40 beeps. You are not objectively worse off with a word than a beep, even if you do not understand the word. Driving a car with beeps and chimes and dings means they all mush together and get ignored.

Feels like it'd be easier to differentiate jingles compared to different words of a language you don't know. You can vary intonations etc, but by that point you're back to jingles.

I've been in foreign countries with languages I don't have any knowledge of. Learning 3 words is not a problem, and is kind of fun. Usually, I learn yes, no, please and thank you. Those words will get you amazingly far!

Maybe some people think R2D2 beeps and chirps are better, but sorry, I have no interest in learning the binary language of vaporators.

I with my car had an accessible log of these notices. Another example, my car gives you a safety score at the end of every drive, out of 100. When I get less than 100, there's no information about what I might do to improve my score, and ostensibly, drive more safely.

One of the downsides of being a lifelong engineer is I see the obvious flaws in everyday designs, and it's so frustrating not being able to fix them.

I can already see two issues with these devices:

- They can’t reliably identify the actual driver. Criminals might simply ask someone else to blow into the device.

- With every car equipped with this safety feature, people might assume everyone driving isn’t drunk.

I’m not sure. It seems like this will only add extra hassle for law-abiding citizens while those for whom it was designed will likely find workarounds.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you are not looking at the road in the first place.

I think it was clear that the poster was distracted by all the useless bongs and beeps and that was what caused the extra distracted driving bong or beep

The speeding chime is legally required to be reset to on after every trip. But I find the speed signs are very rarely missed (model 3 highland), also its a single press on the main screen to disable. My warnings are +99% genuine cases where i need to slow down and I bet that’s true for +99% of people who have these system.

That's strange. I was reading through this thread nodding my head like "Ha, my Tesla doesn't have these annoyances!" until I saw your comment.

I'm guessing though that you're in the EU (I'm in the US where it is almost considered criminal to go speed limit on the highway)

We did an 8 hour ride on a rental recently in Central Europe, mostly through major motorways. The car dashboard disagreed with (apple) maps which disagreed with the road signage so often. The beeping was infuriating.

Mine did until I turned it off, and on an early software version it would do it at full acceleration of the car - and considering it has over 600 horsepower was really terrifying. It also slowed down violently once, misreading a sign on the motorway.

I've noticed this too! The Nissan's adaptive cruise control doesn't accelerate automatically after a sign, but when it does accelerate automatically, e.g because I accepted the prompt to change target speed or because the slow car in front changed lanes or took an exit, it accelerates so bloody quick. Way quicker than I would've if I'm just driving manually.

In all fairness, you should have put your left blinkers on while overtaking the cyclist, and that would have disabled the lane assist.

It boggles my mind that some people are more concerned how much fun driving a car is supposed to be vs 60 people dying in the EU in car accidents every day.

If 60 people died because an airplane falls of the sky every day we wouldn't shrugg that off either, wouldn't we?

And a voice that tells you to keep your eyes on the road when going 200 on the autobahn is one of the least offensive intervention I can think of.
