Cool, can you reply to the person's original reply to me in which they made fun of the point I was making—how "disgusting" it is that Apple…allows photo editors in the App Store? After all, don't be snarky!

It’s not clear that they were making fun of your point, and the guidelines ask us to assume good faith. If you’re serious about expecting others to observe the guidelines, that’s great. Start by observing the guidelines, to demonstrate that you hold yourself to a high standard. Then if others break the guidelines in their responses to you, you’ll be on solid ground in holding them to account, and doing so in a way that also keeps to the guidelines, avoiding personal abuse and escalation.

I don't use it, but yes I think that it works because they have everything to lose and nothing to gain. They definitely could share whatever data they have with whoever, which is why you use e2ee. At the end of the day you are trusting Apple with pretty much everything if you use this service because they make most of your phone, the entire operating system, host the update servers, etc.

Correct but this is not privacy.

Privacy is when you have a phone does not contact external services, or at the least, allows you to control which services it can contact.

With Apple, you don't have this. Sure e2ee to Apple exists, but if China decides to put enough pressure on Apple and request your data from Apple if you visit China, its very likely they will give it to them, and you have no option to opt out.

Apple doesn't run iCloud in China.

We were originally talking about if they implemented e2ee correctly and obviously e2ee gives you significant privacy. Your documents are still private if you encrypt them locally and then upload to google drive, no matter what connections google drive makes.

Privacy is a spectrum and Apple gives you the most privacy of any big tech company.

Because that's not legal, so they sell it to third party data brokers and it gets resold to someone the TLAs can buy it legally from.

Cause I'm not trying to fool you in order to make money off you, and it should not be hard to understand that it is impossible to create a usable reply to a text someone sends you if you can't see the text.

It's not the compute hardware itself. PCC used to be data centers owned and operated by Apple, running on chips designed by Apple. there is no cloud, it's always someone else's computer, so technically someone who is physically in google/apple datacenter at the exact moment your data is being operated on, hypothetically would have a chance to steal your data.

saying that because google owns the hardware, they would quietly not delete or copy your data is quite a wild accusation.n
