#272Cheap ass studs, not surprised. Don’t tow with a cybertruck either, you can literally total it by ripping the frame out with the hitch. It’s the most poorly engineered “truck” there is. Can’t tow. Can’t haul (stupid bed design). It’s just a glorified pavement machine.
It doesn't even use steel for the frame. It's an aluminum cast. I didn't even know that was legal for trucks. It basically guarantees that these things have an expiration date. I honestly can't believe these are legal to sell

whistlindiesel also discovered this. it's honestly terrifying that these are legal to sell as "trucks" and people believe they can safely tow with them. Aluminum will only get weaker over time and is guaranteed to eventually break unlike steel

Are talking about brake-by-wire? Where brakes are controlled by electric only, and if electrics die, no brakes? These are dangerous. Cars are not maintained to aircraft standards and will never be.
Insane take. They will be vastly more reliable than hydraulics.

#279You know, this comments page saddens me. I came to hacker news years ago because every single post had careful, intelligent discussion. Countless times people clearly put their emotions aside and carefully followed the guidelines - be kind, don’t be snarky, be substantive, and when refuting a position don’t say that’s idiotic; say 1+1 does not equal 3.
Shock about the standards that led to cybertruck wheels falling off? Totally right. Discussion about Tesla engineering practices, servicing and business operations, and the influence of their leader on product - absolutely.
But statements like “No one is hauling anything in these anyway. The Cybertruck is a midlife crisis car for white-collar Indian dudes with money.” (Which, to be fair, was flagged so 100% thank you to the community)… or another user I won’t name who has multiple 3-4 word replies like “no it can’t” which is totally helpful in a discussion, are growing.
I know this is a messy topic; hate on the cybertruck and Tesla overall is high and we are all in a different headspace vs pre-covid. And I still come to hacker news because this is the best discussion forum left… but I’m sad about what we’ve lost along the way.

Literally everything you listed can be done with any SUV.
have you used FSD? Have you used the best self driving from other manufacturers? I have. Its no comparison. I turn on FSD and it drives me driveway to driveway to a place in the mountains 4 hours away. I don't touch the wheel.
The same FSD that drove full speed, no reaction, into a wall in san antonio? It was a cybpertruck, too. Or how the cyber cabs have an insane high accident rate here in Austin? I literally move away from teslas when I drive because of this.
On top of that, every Tesla I have driven is poorly built. Ugly rattly plastic, bad panel gaps from the factory, factory paint not even matching, poor UX with everything jammed into the touch screen (lmao gotta go 4 levels deep in the UI to pop the glove box, unless they shipped a change for that). The brake pedal feel like stepping on a hard brick. No feel. Nothing. The drive by wire steering is like driving a 2005 nascar sim with no force feedback.
I could go on, they are objectively bad cars and for those who don't know cars and just want tech.
