Thank you, Its giving NFTs in 2022. About the most useful thing you could do with these things: 1. Resell tokens by scamming general public with false promises (IDEs, "agentic automation tools"), collect bag. 2. Impress brain dead VCs with FOMO with for loops and function calls hooked up to your favorite copyright laundering machine, collect bag. 3. Data entry (for things that aren't actually all that critical), save…

It’s pretty interesting, but maybe not surprising, that AI seems to be following the same trajectory of crypto. Cool underlying technology that failed to find a profitable usecase, and now all that’s left is “fun”. Hopefully that means we’re near the top of the bubble. Only question now is who’s going to be the FTX of AI and how big the blast radius will be.

Crypto enabled gambling/speculation and dark markets, that's it. LLMs are enabling a billion usecases, a lot of them silly or of questionable utility, many of them sound (agentic development, document classification, translation, general purpose assistant stuff, etc.). Does it live up to the trillion investment hype? Definitely not. But if you think that LLM tech will go into obscurity after the bubble pops then I've got a bridge to sell to you.

I appreciate the insightful reply. In typical HN style I'd like to nitpick a few things. > so if process described in 1) is going to lead towards a working general intelligence, there's a good chance it'll stumble on the same architecture evolution did. I wouldn't be so sure of that. Consider that a biased random walk using agents is highly dependent on the environment (including other agents). Perhaps a way to conve…

>> the symbolic approach to modeling the world is fundamentally misguided. > but how did you arrive at this conclusion? Why are you certain that symbolic modeling (of some sort, some subset thereof, etc) isn't what ML models are approximating? I'm not the poster, but my answer would be because symbolic manipulation is way too expensive. Parallelizing it helps, but long dependency chains are inherent to formal logic.…

How do LLM advancements further such a view? Couldn't you have argued the same thing prior to LLMs? That evolution is a greedy optimizer etc etc therefore humans don't perform symbolic reasoning. But that's merely a hypothesis - there's zero evidence one way or the other - and it doesn't seem to me that the developments surrounding LLMs change that with respect to either LLMs or humans. (Or do they? Have I missed something?)

Even if we were to obtain evidence clearly demonstrating that LLMs don't reason symbolically, why should we interpret that as an indication of what humans do? Certainly it would be highly suggestive, but "hey we've demonstrated that thing can be done this way" doesn't necessarily mean that thing _is_ being done that way.

That's my Alex! I was actually too scared security-wise to let it download dynamic instructions from a remote server every few hours and post publicly with access to my private data in its context, so I told it instead to build a bot that posts there periodically so it's immune to prompt injection attacks The bot they wrote is apparently just using the anthropic sdk directly with a simple static prompt in order to fa…

Oh. Goodness gracious. Did we invent Mr. Meeseeks? Only half joking. I am mildly comforted by the fact that there doesn't seem to be any evidence of major suffering. I also don't believe current LLMs can be sentient. But wow, is that unsettling stuff. Passing ye olde Turing test (for me, at least) and everything. The words fit. It's freaky. Five years ago I would've been certain this was a work of science fiction by…

These models are all trained on human output. The bot output resembling human output is not surprising. This is how people write and is the kind of stuff they write about online. It’s all just remixed.

> Nobody is building anything worthwhile with these things. Do you mean AI or these "personal agents"? I would disagree on the former, folks build lots of worthwile things

for example?

A website for a meetup I host including a store. It was a 30min thing and amazing. A web app to track my contact lens usage. An android app for my gym routine. A web app to try drum patterns

zactly - this is scifi stories from the 1950's being replayed, the shocking thing is that there's so much open mouthed "oh wowing" going on. People who are surprised by this need to read a few novels.

Can someone explain to me how does Moltbook know posts and comments are truly made by AI agents? Looking at https://moltbook.com/skill.md if the "human" has to register to get the API key, nothing is stopping me to post and pretend to be the AI agent myself. What am I missing?

Humans are too lazy to bother.

An accurate assessment of the situation is curmudgeonly? It IS a complete waste of computational power, energy, tokens, everything which is a thoughtful criticism. Just blowing through millions of tokens for a pointless Reddit clone for LLMs is wasteful. All so we can have RAM prices triple in a year.

Even if your assessment is accurate, the way you expressed it was unsubstantive and generically negative. That's not the kind of conversation we're looking for here. We want you (i.e. everyone) to share your more thoughtful, nuanced, and playful insights. One-second sledgehammers aren't in that spirit.

All aboard the hype train I suppose
